Censorship
We actually had a whole sub-forum for that. Some people entered, armed only with emotion and thin skin. When they got their feelings hurt, they filed complaints. Instead of punishing the offender, they removed the whole forum. So, two/three bullies cancelled recess for the whole class.
Now, we're doing write-offs:
Buy _____ intake.
Use _____ oil.
Buy _____ tires.
No, we don't have a spare.
No, we don't have an aftermarket website.
Yes, our resale sucks.
Kumbaya, kumbaya.

I’m pretty much apolitical and against censorship; however, I’m with the moderators on this one. Here’s my rationale:
1) The owners/administrators/moderators of .org decided a while ago to drop politics from the forum for whatever reason. So, whether we agree or not, .org is dedicated to Crossfire discussions only, less politics. PERIOD. There are plenty of other forums out there to discuss GOP vs Dems, birth control, religion, gay marriage, etc… just not this one. That’s part of the deal.
2) The MB/Chrysler thread quickly skidded off the runway toward political issues, despite a post by one of the moderators to stay on course.
3) IIRC, some of the deleted posts were clearly political, if not inflammatory. (Note: I’m going from memory here, so feel free to flame me if that makes you feel better. I surf through a lot of forums and don’t memorize the posts verbatim).
4) Accordingly, we should all have been surprised if the admin/moderators did not delete the political posts in question. They were just doing their job per the forum policy.
I have no horse in this race, just weighing in with my $.02 .

I KNOW this post will be deleted, but I'll say it anyway :
HOW HARD COULD IT BE ?
Some PC genius here should start a new forum even allowing GASP!!! political comments GASP!!
Unfortunately, that person is not me, I'm too old for the hassle anymore.
Guess I'll hang in here on this vanilla forum as long as I can ....

Insensitive ogre.
You have to get a critical mass to keep a forum going, there was the other forum that eventually failed. They were on average from an older age group like me. It appeared to be on life support for a long time, it ended up DNR.
If everyone ends up patting each other on the back this forum could go the same way. You need the good, the bad and the ugly.

Old fart.

I'll try to answer these in order:
1) While this is true, many have agreed that this hinders discussion. How many topics in today's times are truly sterile from political impact? What's the tolerance limit? One post? Three posts? Zero tolerance? Or does it simply depend on whether the mod agrees with your stance? I've seen many posts/threads receive zero critique as long as the active mod has no beef. If two members attempt to have a civil discussion and it's relevant to the OP, what's the harm? THIS is the grey area.
2) There are countless threads that do this. And when multiple people (not just me) perpetuate the discussion, perhaps that's a sign that we need somewhere to vent?
3) Of course they were political. "Inflammatory" -- well, that depends on how tender you are. Some people can get along just fine with sunscreen, others need a Nomex racing suit. Should we tiptoe around the wusses?
4) Since the original picture and (catalyst for discussion) was deleted (and not because it was political, FYI -- it was Calvin p!ssing on a car company), the *logical* thing would be to simply delete the thread. Instead, certain posts were gleaned and stripped as one moderator saw fit, and we were left with a skeleton of a thread that made no sense. Some posts were deleted immediately, others were left to marinate for a day or two, warranting further responses (and not only from me). It's a moot point now because no one really cares about that thread anymore. But, it certainly won't be the last.
The intention is golden -- "create an environment free of dissent and polarizing thought". And that's about as boring as plain oatmeal. Sure, it's healthy -- but you'll die of boredom before you realize the health benefits.
If the only thing we're allowed to discuss is our favorite brand of oil and "I washed my car today" -- you can plan on me posting elsewhere. The dynamic nature of our forum is what made it great. The stagnant future promised through political correctness and sterility will be its demise.
I will not get into a debate regarding this. Let me just explain that while we considered deleting the whole thread, we did not think it was fair to those posting in reply to the OP. I deleted ony those posts that had any form of political, or instigation a political discussion, or at least that was the intent, not censoring, which by the way all forums will do if things get posted that are not allowed.
Yes, there is no "political" discussions allowed on this forum. Some like to push the envelope and see how far they can go, and those posts will be deleted.
There is a "general" section here if you are tired of talking about your cars. You are free to discuss anything you want, as long as it does not turn into a political discussion. If it does, it will be deleted.

Mods stick together as if they were in a union...
I have an issue with Andrew deleting anything negitive posted about his products. If a member askes about stickers fadeing, some say no, others (like me) posted yes mine have faded then "poof" my post is gone. Conflict of interest a Mod selling things, one or the other... I sent a PM to IBNolan about this with links to threads discussing it, Nothing other than I will look into it...
Fact is they do what they want, the other mods back them up, Deal with it or see you later. Thats what I get from being a active member since '08

So, there's that.

You must be thinking of my post on FB. I just checked 180's thread, and there are no posts missing. My posts are still there.
I started a thread quite a while titled. "Falken tires who like them" or like that.
There was quite a few replies....no politics for sure.
One day it was just gone.....
Not really sure what happened to it...
Ok...

I have been on at least a dozen other forums I belong too. On every one that politics is discussed, it is the exact same name calling, cussing, bullshit... If you want to argue politics there are plenty of platforms for that... As I see it, some of you want to take on other members on here, or why would you push the envelope. OH, we just want to debate...well, go to a political forum and debate...away... Or text one another.... I am on the gun forums....right now...guess who we are talking about.....or I can even go over to the thin blue line forum...guess who WE are talking about....hell, even my trucking forum is talking about you KNOW who.....get over it.... FP is doing his job... and since we are discussing....each other....you have a paid vendor trying to sell his wares, and someone comes along, copies what he is selling, and offer it up for free....nice...I would want to be his friend.... and once the freebies are done, we don't see him again....but, the vendor is the bad guy....yeah, bring back the political threads. I'm ready....let's get it on....

As for the thin blue line I never did figure why the word thin was used, over half the cops are over weight.
