Thumbs down Censorship

Seriously, it's getting ridiculous.

I can understand removing/editing posts if they are threatening or blatantly insulting to a specific member... but for our moderators to simply go through threads and cherry-pick which posts (and parts of posts) they remove, based on THEIR preference, is nonsense. In the end, I end up being quoted (but the original post has vanished) and the thread looks like someone has paranoid schizophrenia.

https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...-thoughts.html

I've lost count of the "respectful" posts by numerous members that were simply deleted. Dave posted a very well thought-out response to a very carefully-worded response of mine -- both were deleted -- his response to my post immediately, and ultimately my post (although "snippets" of my post are quoted by numerous people).

I can't speak for everyone on here, but when I post, I try to invest time and care so as to be thorough and respectful. Most of the responses in that thread were respectful as well.

If my "safe, PC, and respectful" posts aren't safe from removal, then what is?

What is the point of even posting anymore? Do we truly have a zero tolerance rule of anything even being remotely related to politics?

If that's the case, threads about high gas prices should be deleted immediately. Threads moaning about the resale and inflation should be deleted immediately. Threads complaining about potholes should be deleted immediately, as that's a slam on the infrastructure which is fed by tax dollars.

You get my point.

I've been a member here since '06, and have always tried to conduct myself in a respectful and reasonable manner.

Quite simply, it's disrespectful to those that invest time in their thoughts. Especially if the main drive for deletion is a difference of opinion. Very cowardly, and I'm disappointed that we've come to this.

Seems like the new owners would want more traffic on here, not less.

But, less is what they are getting - and less and less is what they are gonna get.

Where is the basis for the belief that if you disagree with someone, you are not their friend and/or you don't like them?

Ha, foiled again

Mark -- Not sure, my friend. What is the basis for leaving some posts up, parts of others up, and removing others altogether? Personal preference of the moderator?

Well written John, I agree with all you are saying. They are Judge Jury and executioner on here though, so it will always be up to them what/who stays. Unfortunately not much is done by the people nowadays.... Wait, that might be taken as a political statement... Lol Oh well, it's true.

Agree completely.

While it's true that the forum sets the rules, the forum is nothing without its people. Many of our best members rarely post nowadays.

I'm going to post this as a whisper so only those that I want to read it can. You never know who's listening and you have to be careful these days.

There are words that cannot be mentioned on the forum, so just to remind you see George Carlins famous skit.
xxx//yyy
.youtube.com/watch?v=lqvLTJfYnik

Type them out 100 times just so you remember.

We know sex is out, even the most innocent mention of it. This forum was good at one time, but it is a now just a distant mammary.

That is all true, and it really is too bad that it has to be that way.

I KNOW this post will be deleted, but I'll say it anyway :

HOW HARD COULD IT BE ?

Some PC genius here should start a new forum even allowing GASP!!! political comments GASP!!

Unfortunately, that person is not me, I'm too old for the hassle anymore.

Guess I'll hang in here on this vanilla forum as long as I can ....

You have to get a critical mass to keep a forum going, there was the other forum that eventually failed. They were on average from an older age group like me. It appeared to be on life support for a long time, it ended up DNR.

If everyone ends up patting each other on the back this forum could go the same way. You need the good, the bad and the ugly.

I agree with this. Debating is key for people's interest and for opinions to be expressed the other may not have thought about, thus birthing new ideas for the beloved modifications

Just think.. one little thread... "The War Zone"... could save moderators from running thread to thread.. Make it un-moderated.. enter at own risk.. then it's sunny beaches and watching bikini's for the mods.. LOL.

We actually had a whole sub-forum for that. Some people entered, armed only with emotion and thin skin. When they got their feelings hurt, they filed complaints. Instead of punishing the offender, they removed the whole forum. So, two/three bullies cancelled recess for the whole class.

Now, we're doing write-offs:

Buy _____ intake.
Use _____ oil.
Buy _____ tires.
No, we don't have a spare.
No, we don't have an aftermarket website.
Yes, our resale sucks.

Kumbaya, kumbaya.

Couldn't agree more, even if there's a lot we disagree on. You're a good guy, Charlie Brown.

Total coincidence, Jon created this thread at the same time I was out shopping for a new avatar, completely unrelated, but I guess we are on the same wavelength.

The moderators here do a great job and I am happy they freely give their time to put up with a few that ruin it for everyone, but the piecemeal deletions should stop IMHO.

But the HOW HARD COULD IT BE is not warranted here because it is a lot harder than you would think. Some of these guys have to spend 5-10 hours every week on this crap when they could be enjoying their cars or their family, these are vilunteers, not IB employees. I know my time is very valuable to me, and I appreciate what they do, but maybe some ground rules would be a good start...

I think we'd all be shocked to learn how much time we spend on the forums. For some, 5 hours a week may be a bit conservative (oops, I said the c-word).

Over at MB-World (another IB site) they have a very active Political Forum. And the rules are simple -- respect each other, or you're out. You can discuss topics until you're blue in the face, but as soon as you call someone a "son of a motherless goat" (or worse) you're either banned or warned. And, if I'm honest, it's shockingly civil over there. Sure, there are some ill-informed posters over there, but that is more frustrating than offensive. And we're never going to be able to censor frustration from our lives, so we may as well learn something from each other in the process.

Some people simply can't handle confrontation. I can't imagine being so weak.

Self censorship is available for those who wade in too deep.. ignore and un subscribe. But I guess that's for mature audiences only..

LOL
