Well the country is just seeing what happens in Florida every time a hurricane looms and the media goes ballistic.
That said I was a telecommuter for over a decade before I retired and figured I saved an hour and a half a day and $250/month in gasoline. A lot of people are going to discover this.
A secondary effect is going to be auto sales both new and used coming to a halt. Is going to be a good time to buy. Wonder how long it will take for computer manufacturers to put together "Home Office" specials. Is not just a laptop..
Sounds like the gov is going to crank up the printing presses to the tune of 2 trillion. Can inflation be far behind ? Depression and inflation ? Welcome to Brazil.
Here's an article you all should read. I just spoke with a friend, the Head ER Nurse at the VA hospital near me, and she believes this progression is not wrong. With normal flu, an infected person infects about 1.2 persons, so the vaccine knocks it down. Best estimates are 18 months to have an effective vaccine that can be used widely. Covid cases infect about 2.5 per day if out and about, but they who 10-14 days before showing symptoms, so - that means a single infected person out and about can start a chain that hits about 57,000 others. Imperial's estimate of 2.2 million in the US is possible. Spanish flu killed 675K for reference.
Car prices may drop, but where do you go if stuff is closed down. The kids on Clearwater beach last week may not care if they kill Grandma, but now that lots of them are being sent into ICU units too, that may change. Will anybody want to travel, even by car, and stay where, do what, eat where? Our local car dealers and shops have closed for two weeks. Anyone who wants a helluva deal on my 2005 yellow limited roadster with 59K, #1 condition, listed on the Forum, now's the time.
Well, the Boeing Factories in Puget Sound are shutting down by Wednesday.... makes no nevermind to me as I haven't been to work since Friday. After my manager had by crew work in an area that was quarantined 15 hours earlier.... I said screw it!! I'll take a CAM (corrective action).
We lost a Union Steward who was also a QA on the 787 line yesterday. I didn't know him, but our shop Steward whom I am friends with did. Next day Boeing decides to close up shop, same day Governor Dumb@ss says OK.... everyone stay at home. Currently calling for a 2 week shutdown, but I think it will last 30 days minimum. It took Wuhan 4 months to recover and it was draconian.
We went to Wal-Mart and stocked up on hot dogs and spaghetti stuff and pretty much un-healthy crap. I did buy some Bananas though. BTW, you can fit 2 carts of groceries in the hatch of a XF..... I really wish I would have taken a picture and I swear the car handled funny on the way home. The steering was lighter and it seemed to want to wander.
My wife has been home from work for a week, she's been a Valet Attendant at a local Indian Casino for the last 11 years. My 13 yr old daughter has been home from school for 10 days or so now. I don't think she will finish this school year in a classroom.
My older sister owns a restaurant/bar and she's shut down of course. My Niece who is a new mother got her unemployment denied..... I'm hoping that will get sorted out.
My 14 day ticker to return to work starts Wednesday...… I also bought 30 shares of Boeing stock at $100 per. A year ago it was $450. I do like the industry I work in and am hoping for a quick recovery of the airline industry once the CV moves on.
This situation really sucks!! I will have some time to devote to catching up on some projects around the house.... so that's good.
Anyways..... we are going to try to make the best of it.
Now that independent labs can test for the Wuhan Virus in P.R. things are getting spicier. 2 restaurant workers from different locations, a CVS employee, in other words, people that are still working during the quarantine. We're at 59 confirmed cases with 2 deaths. 20 more than yesterday. Theres talk of extending the lockdown for 2 more weeks here.
As far as the politics ...... I listen to the press conferences and later read what the papers report. Everyone should this no matter who's press conference it is.
About six months ago we did Three million single use samples of Purell(tm) I have about a 1,000 samples left over and have been handing them out at,,,; Gas stations.
As Many of us are old guys coming here Who have encountered, (or are solving Crossfire problems for others)....an important key to Coronavirus survival is a strong and robust immune system.....here are important guidelines to follow.
Today I had to go shopping at Costco. For a minute I thought I was in Disneyland by mistake! They're limiting how many people are inside at once so we can avoid each others space. Result, over an hour in the sun to enter. An obrero with a bullhorn was urging us to keep our distance from one another as well as advising the shoppers that they had no toilet paper, paper towels, gloves, wipes, lysol, hand sanitizer, masks, etc. They had plenty of beer and wine however.

Tremendously good advice, all of that is essentially what my cardiologists have told me for six years.
I also take Vitaman A, B6, B12, D, and E all year 'round.
Two weeks ago, I added 4000IU a day of Vitamin D3 and 1200 of Vitamin C after reading all I could about this and all corona virus'.
(I find that nightly news and Facebook are lousy places to get medical advice, I prefer recent studies on CV-2019 and general information on the coronavirus family. WEBmd, Mayo Clinic and such are also good places to find papers on these topics.)
How many more deaths do you expect to see before a state of emergency is declared in your state?
Dave; You never seem to resist an opportunity to mock us here in the states. I guess we should just humbly understand the disrespect; coming from someone that lives in such a perfect society. You folks up there are very use to hibernating; not such a big deal for you.

I would also be jealous if i lived under a Monarchy.
The land of Canada is solely owned by Queen Elizabeth II who is also the head of state. Only 9.7% of the total land is privately owned while the rest is Crown Land. The land is administered on behalf of the Crown by various agencies or departments of the government of Canada.Jun 11, 2019
Obviously C19 is giving a lot of people short fuses, yes. Let's not try to prove how sarcastic we can all be. There should be a separate forum for that.
So this morning I have to go to my family doctor at the clinic for a "routine" appointment that had to be prearranged and approved. I arrived at a locked door at the clinic and was met be a "scrubbed" nurse with a mask. My temperature was taken, I answered questions, put on a mask and was told to enter. I entered the waiting room and was with one other person, there is room for 40 usually, there are only 3 chairs set up about 8 feet apart. When I was called to see my doctor, I went in and had my temperature taken again, more questions, doctor comes in with full scrubbs. Got things checked and discussed it with her. We digressed. My town of about 125,000 now has our own ":community spread" cases. She as a doctor, mother, wife, is actually scared. The science tells her this will last at least till the fall with 2 smaller waves to follow. It is not even close to peaking. All local doctors in private clinics have been asked by the local hospitals to cover Emergency Service when requested, not if requested. She said she never thought she would ever have to worry about going to work and getting killed. She is 38, has a husband, 2 young girls 5 and 7, and saved my life 10 years ago. Lets pray for all the "front liners" no matter what government people live under. The virus knows no politics. It is on a mission. Our mission has to be greater. Stay Home.

I think that those on the front line should get danger pay, we have to thank them for their service.
I read about some selfish cow who knew she had the virus lied about her symptoms and got on a plane back from Florida. How many will she infect? The paper said that they were not disclosing her name so that she did not get any hate mail. Is she still walking around, I would say the paper should disclose her name.

Agree w/ all the above. Our DOJ deems her actions criminal; and could be prosecuted. Hate mail would be too light a sentence for her!
