The basic facts of this Pandemic is that no one is immune, the Covid virus doesn’t know borders, we are woefully unprepared in numbers of testing kits, the lack of personal protection supplies means that our health care providers will also get infected and can’t care for us, the number of ICU rooms are inadequate as well as regular hospital beds, people are losing their jobs, students are not in schools, companies are going out of business, we can’t fly to care/visit for sick (or dead) family because the airlines have seriously reduced their flights-or not flying to certain cities at all.....we need to self-isolate to not only keep ourselves healthy but our families, friends and neighbors. These are facts and our country as well as OTHER countries are in the same serious trouble! I’m a very optimistic person, but after spending many years in health care, I realize we are in BIG trouble and all of us are going to have to forget about our differences and take care of our fellow countryman—-that’s not a Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist (or whatever faith it no faith) bailies but HUMAN VALUES! Treat people as you would want to be treated.... OK, thank you gorvyour patience and understanding 👊

I have an appt with my oral surgeon on Tuesday. His office is inside a hospital and I got a call from him today telling me that effective Monday anyone coming into the building has to pass through a 1st-floor COVID-19 checkpoint. He could provide no more information than that... but no more just going straight to his office.

I have a strong feeling that our local CA hospitals will adopt procedures like our local VA hospital. There are only 2 entrances open and EVERYONE (including all staff) entering hospital are screened for temp or Covid symptoms. If they present symptoms they are taken to an isolation tent, are tested for Covid waiting 1 1/2 hours for test results...if positive they are moved to isolated ward. The ONLY non-staff allowed are those family visiting family that are actively dying. Serious stuff!

Many more restrictions are going to come down from gov offices and DHEC in every state. They know where it is running rampant and where (so far) it is not. Patience and vigilance is needed by everyone. Pay attention to your federal, state, and local officials. The system is working but it takes time! We can all be a part to limit this but if ppl keep ignoring the things we should do or are asked/directed to do, many more will suffer. Pay attention!

Just heard a news flash on local TV, our county just confirmed the first case. Up to now we were lucky.

I totally agree, this nasty, nasty virus should not be used for petty politicking.

You can always drive around the block to get out or go to walk the neighborhood to break up the cabin fever. Woody Solitary events you know, this will last months and probably till the vaccine is available.

Not possible, the incubation period is too long. I don't see us reducing the rate in new cases with anything less than a universal, nationwide, one month quarantine.
Given that many of us must keep working, we can only accomplish maybe an 85-90% quarantine. This is not going to be easy and it is going to take time, strict precautions, etc.

:We are in for a LONG struggle here, I sense that a nationwide quarantine is planned, perhaps in another two weeks.

I fully intend to use my Roadster as a quarantine space for myself to go out for long drives while I'm off work due to a shutdown.
I can leave my house and stay in my car until I'm back in my garage
Stay safe everyone !!

Hell, gas prices are such that i could go for a drive back to Georgia to see my sister.
But soon, I think even the drive thru food will not be an option. When that happens, the trucks will stop running and things will get REALLY interesting.

THis could get really ugly. We may end up just going back to regular life and letting the chips (dead) fall where they may.

That is just your perpetual pessimism showing and if more people feel the same we are doomed. We just have to be careful and let those who have the disease get over it. It may take some time but throwing caution to the wind is not the solution.
If a vaccine was developed tomorrow we would have the anti vaccination crowd shunning it, relying on herd immunity to protect them.

I look forward to a time in the future when this is just an old thread on the forum that slips into the archives where nobody posts on it anymore.
For now it is a source to share our thoughts and perspectives while keeping the "social distance" are computers provide.
We may have different views but please respect one another and allow it to flow smoothly here.
Thank you onehundred80 for starting this thread.

See, I would bet that THEY will be the FIRST insisting they get the vaccine - have we not seen this psychology before?

But again, if you do not leave infrastructure (including food service) in place for the truckers, they will shut down out of self preservation - THAT is what I was saying.
And I am part of that crowd - rememeber, Dave, I am expected to go to work every day, as are the food processing plant employees, police, fire, ems, 911, utility workers. A 100% shutdown will never happen, it can't.
We have finally got to the point where fast food drive thru workers and truck drivers are no longer to be considered unimportant or unrecognized. The only place I had to eat Friday was a fast food outlet.

Of course, I can pack a lunch each day - truck drivers that are on the road for days at a time may have issues feeding themselves three times a day if their vehicle was provided with no consideration for a once-in-100-years situation.

I did not explain my position well, but my position IS valid.

I for one thank those that HAVE to be 'out there' and shun those who think they must be out there. Who determines that answer will be the ones tasked to make that decision for the masses. When that decision comes (I pray never but see the facts realistically) there will be many who don't follow the mandated instructions. So be it!

I keep thinking it is time for me to refuse to go to work. I"m 60 now, I have a cardiac history, I don't need to deal with severe illness and I have concerns about the lung damage this thing leaves in many who survive it.
On the other hand, my work matters to police, fire, EMS and 911 staff. None of them can just say, "I am not going to work..."

If I were you I would call your Cardiologist and ask him how your immune system has been compromised from the past events of your heart problems
Treat this like a strange engine noise. ASAP

I'm looking beyond the health concerns at the moment. The economic impact on people's lives and the OVERALL impact on the WORLD'S economy is perhaps a FAR more worrying concern. Look at how economists from all the top financial institutions are forecasting Q2 in 2020. They don't agree EXACTLY (they never do) but they all agree it has no precedence in history and will be VERY, VERY bad!!!

Goldman Sachs, Credit Suisse, UBS (Union Bank of Switzerland), Barclays, Bank of America, JPMorgan, Deutsche Bank -- Look at their forecasts in the article below, especially for Q2. All forecast a SUDDEN and historical drop.
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/coron...140600768.html

To my thinking we will ONLY come out of this when there is a vaccine.

Agreed on both counts, no need to look at any source, it takes only logic and a conscious mind to see where the economies of the world are headed. We can and will recover, but this iwll be a long road.
we are in for up to 2 years of uncertainty.

Well this old guy would love to stay home but my company thinks I need to keep the farmers in seed to plant this year. I self quarantine in my big rig, keep my distance from those I deliver to, and same for those I get my paperwork from. So, If gets any worse in my area, I’m afraid my employer is going to have to honor my paid time off. This is serious, as I like many thought it just to be another flu bug, but it is showing itself to be a super flu if you will. My old *** has had something this year that kicked my ***, and last year I had something, that I was ready to die I was so sick. We need to get a handle on these new viruses or none of us are going to be safe. Indiana has 10 cases right now, 3 died. Stay safe, borders won’t save you.
Update: 8 dead and over 200 affected added in just one day. Doesn’t look good for us in Indiana. Starting to grow rapidly.

This article in the Consumer Reports magazine tells you to be extra careful when filling the gas tank at a gas station, the tips really apply to anywhere the public has access.
