Because of cancellations due to Covid-19, my local VA has moved up my appointment to this Friday for my upgrade hearing aids !
The good news for someone out there is that my current hearing aids will be available. Oticon Alta2Pro, 3 yrs. old, working fine, with a years supply of batteries.
No trouble finding a chair on the beach there.
It’s got to be tough taking that view in every day.
I've only done the Alabama thing for three years, but I'm a native Floridian. If Puerto Rico is anything like 'us', (yes, I'm still a Floridian!) they've closed the beaches and that is why you don't see a soul. So unfortunately someone would come along and upset your serenity if you tried to find any inner-peace on your beach chair. Life is stupid. They closed Miami Beach 3 days ago it seems. I believe Monday is the day they closed the 3 public beaches in Key West. In Florida Governor DeSantis has less-strict state rules he's implemented but localities are free to become as draconian as they wish. In Miami Beach there is an 11PM curfew. In Key West they closed all the bars and restaurant dining rooms. Only restaurants with drive-thru or take-away service or delivery can be open for business. I believe Saturday was the final day cruise ships were allowed to dock. So many locals are in the service industry catering to tourists and they are mostly out of a job and therefore a paycheck now. That is my concern for the public well-being, probably even greater than the threat of a virus as most of those people were just scraping by week to week. I'm one of those people who can be and are working from home but not everyone is that lucky. No one is talking about it but this will soon become a MAJOR issue because it seems like these forced shut-downs will continue for months.
A quick scan of the beach shows that three people have it all to themselves, Les has just got to tough it out, sit on the balcony and sip his drink and think of us poor wretches watching the snow disappear revealing all the crap that accumulated during the winter.
The US/Canadian border is now closed, only trucks and those with urgent business can cross.
I think we can say that the spring Dragon is now history for all, it would be nice to think that Woodward and the fall Dragon will run as usual, but I have some doubts.
My wife and I are not going out unless it is really urgent.

There was not a Spring Dragon this year anyway but I have doubts the "Snake" that was to replace it may be on the radar anymore As far as the rest of the summer events its a wait and wonder for now
Suffice to say this will get worse before it gets better. If those who think it isn't everyones job in life right now to limit social contact in every area, it'll get worse sooner. Crying about all the interruptions others have to go through in whatever area your in will do noting to control the rates of infection. So, while MY household is shutting ourselves in for the long run, I share the isolation with all responsible people who are trying to save lives. Those who disregard the voluntary, suggested, required limits already in place WILL be responsible for more harsh REQUIRED limitations on their irresponsible wanton irrational behavioral results of spreading this virus. This is truly a 'If your not with me, your against me' time for everyone to contemplate. Quit crying, accept this now, and be part of the solution!
In Canada at least we are dealing with the facts and are actually being polite about it. I guess your BS is none of our business, but we still care about our neighbors here, and you guys are our neighbors. In a month, or a year I will still feel the same about my country and my neighbors whom I love, and respect.
Well, I dont know what you refer to, but the way I have seen people hoard stuff and even try to sell it on eBay at high prices - I think some criticism is due.
On the OTHER hand, I have seen and heard of some pretty caring things done by some of my fellow citizens this week...

I do what I can, but we are working as usual - everyone so far. There is talk of letting sales people work at home, which will help a bit, but the rest of us MUST work, or the company fails and we are all out of jobs.
We support police, fire, EMS, 911 centers and a lot of food processing plants - we have to work. I assume I will be exposed to the virus sooner or later - at age 60, I think I can survive it but I do have heart issues.
Nothing I can do GG.
I"m not sure that, by years' end, when round two of this virus visits us, just what economy the USA will have left. We are a strong nation, but this is going to mess up most EVERY nation.

Don't get me wrong, MANY are doing what is needed. It is those who aren't paying attention, burying their heads in the sand, that are in for a rude awakening. Education and following the rather easier suggestions now before they become mandatory (especially in the hot zones) is what must be paid attention to and planned for. As of today (and projected for the next 10 days or so until people realize this isn't easily blown off), the rate of infections are (since a couple days ago) doubling each day. That is only the tested ones! Pay attention people, stay away from others and listen to your area/states recommendations (wouldn't hurt to limit further, more than the suggestions). Pass the word, the media bias does not and has not focused on this enough in the prevention areas (although I am seeing them change their focus since many of them are reporting their correspondents becoming infected, and what many hot zones are having to resort to). Seems they are/were more interested in complaining about the past history so far, and those who are affected (instead on those areas that will be affected). Just tonight, the major news media is starting to 'get it'. In the last few days the young were partying and blowing it off but now it has been reported that the virus is hitting the younger ones hard as well. 18 March 6:30pm NBC nightly news listed the additional data on younger infected people. I pray in 10 or so days that 'peak' in positives and hospitalizations, is reducing or 'flattening out'. It'll never happen if ppl (all ppl) don't limit their movements and interactions.
Keep a positive outlook, prepare for the long haul, and spread the word (educate) when someone says this is all fake. This is as real as it gets!
We are “can do”. People bonded by 200 years of Christian values, roll up your sleeves work ethic, and secured by our saving grace of Free Market. The last 50 years has seen that fade-away a bit, but this is our DNA and it will come roaring back like a dominate gene to face this challenge.
From the sense of adventure crossing oceans for an unknown, to establishing a way of life with inalienable rights, recognizing the hidden value of unlocking natural resources, defeating a depression and winning a World War. Landing on the moon for God’s sake !
We are Blessed ! We have a responsibility here and we will figure this out
We need to come up with a name for the generation spawned by COVID-19.
What with everyone staying home, there IS gonna be another baby boom
Long about December 2020 the hospitals will be inundated ( again ) with births.
This 34 year old man was a good friend to Nolan Browning one of the previous staff members at Internet Brands
He just died of COVID-19
California based "Internet Brands" are the ones who purchased the Crossfire Forum here several years ago.
Nolan is a friend on my Facebook page
We instituted new protocols for our workers this morning. Last night we sent everybody home with Temperature monitors that stick on the forehead and give a read of your body temperature.
Anyone with a temp is to stay home and everyone must have it on when they come in the building to work.
Again, we must stay healthy, keep our co-workers safe and be on station.
Yesterday we found out that Wal-Mart orders will increase for the security/ingredient labels we package. I ordered double supplies of materials.
We also package swabs and Temperature monitors. Those orders will likely double this month.
…...I wish we made TP...….
Whilst it is fortunate that business is booming, sales mean little if one cannot produce. Since one of the commodities is medical, at this critical time we cannot fall short.
To that end we have issued OTC supplements for immune support to all the staff.
Stay healthy my friends. The nation needs us strong.
Here it's all about image politics. Only 130 tests done, 30% by the VA Hospital. 8 cases confirmed so far. Funny thing though. A Texas National Guard soldier tested positive after returning home from Puerto Rico. A Canadian tested positive at the airport upon her return to Canada. They ARE testing people that die. A little late don't you think? You can be sure in 18 months a warehouse of unused test kits will be discovered.
Hello All
One of my favorite places that I went to when I lived in Vancouver BC was the Peace Arch ..from Wikipedia The Peace Arch has the flags of United States and Canada mounted on its crown, and two inscriptions on both sides of its frieze. The inscription on the U.S. side of the Peace Arch reads "Children of a common mother", and the words on the Canadian side read "Brethren dwelling together in unity". Within the arch, each side has an iron gate mounted on either side of the border with an inscription above each gate: the one on the east side read "May these gates never be closed", while on the west side read "1814 Open One Hundred Years 1914".
And now we are in 2020
I Love both our Countries and all the Crazy Crossfire Children that live in them...
