Selling the Car - But........
TO MY CROSSFIRE FAMILY:
I’ve been a member of this community since July, 2009. The friends I have made and the family I found have been amazing. Recently, I have been diagnosed with a very serious condition with my back. In order to give myself a reasonable chance at a ‘good’ quality of life now and in the future, I must face realities.
#
The reality is, driving long distances in the car are now out of the question. I have known the Crosssfire seats challenged my back for 15 years. The degradation is to the point now that I must take daily measures to protect and help my back.
#
To this end, the car will be sold by spring. I plan to keep my manuals, notes and wiring diagrams and continue to support this community on a technical level. I plan to fly into some events, perhaps help with activities, and certainly spend time with lifelong friends. Even riding any distance over maybe a mile or two is something I am not longer willing to risk, so no, I wont be a passenger, navigator or “co-pilot”; I wish I could tho.
#
Over 15 years, I went from not being able to keep up with even a moderate group, to running with sport bikes on the Dragon. I’ve led meets, I’ve led groups, I’ve met an awesome bunch of wonderful people - all brought together by the common fascination of these cars. This may have been the best time of my life.
#
As to the car, many know, I have a $3500 hands free commercial Kenwood two-way radio it in, which makes it possible to lead a group, shift gears, talk on the radio and never take hands off the controls. The car will be offered for sale with this radio. If there is no interest in this, I will remove the radio and sell it separately on a commercial radio forum where I can get the money it is worth. But I’d LOVE for someone to buy this car a “Take the Lead” at various meets, in my place.
#
I post this now so that my car sale posts are not derailed by discussions of “Why, Mark?” Let’s get that out of the way already. I’d like to say, I have needed help recently, and the Crossfire community has helped, as my kids are 1000 miles away. (That is going to change as well.) What I am saying, one more time, is that this bunch of friends is outstanding. Some of you care about me more than my church ‘family’ cares about me; and that fact is NOT lost on me at this time.

Mark and I have had some discussions recently and I understand his situation.
I as well as many others wish Mark the best getting through the physical issues he has.
We have been friends many years and we are the 2 active admins on this forum.
I expect he will still be with us here online and wish him the very best going forward

My best video memory happened because of YOU Gary
THat was an awesome run. I look at it now, as we crossed the bridge, and think, "DAMN, I'd never do that on my own..."

It was Pizzaguy (Mark) following me fairly fast on US28 back to Fontana Lodge at our Dragon Event in 2013

Mark, always a pleasure with you on board. Whilst you will still be here, I know folks will miss you at meets and Fontana.

Wow
Really sad to hear about your situation
it’s difficult to give up the things that make us happy.
I’m happy that despite the setback. We still get to take away the insights and wisdom you’ll still be able to provide.
Health is the path to happiness. Please look after yourself and do what’s in your best interest.

I will pray for you, and that your treatments will be successful and that life becomes easier for you.
I haven't been on this forum that long, but I have learned a lot from you, and I'm glad that you plan to offer more help in the future.
Hopefully we will get a chance to meet at a Crossfire event sometime.
Best wishes,
John

Thanks, All. I will say that Physical Therapy has helped a LOT, it did what drugs and doctors could not do. But fact remains, I must take several actions to protect my back and get back to "normal":
1 Hydration - two docs have told me it is important.
2 Loose weight - yea, and I've lost 15 pounds since Thanksgiving, mostly cause I went 18 days with no desire to eat.
3 POSTURE - this is the reason to sell the car, I must continually and habitually work on maintaining correct posture.
4 Find a pool and swim three times a week.
I plan to fly into Eureka SPrings next year. I'll help with activities and maybe go swimming and window shopping while everyone is on the road.

I remember a conversation you and I had at the Dragon some ten years ago. You related that your time of tearing thru the curves was to come to an end in a matter of years - due to aging. I am now turning 65 and have noticed a slight decrease in my response time, etc. I know that MY time of pushing a car to the edge would be coming to an end anyway, it's just that my back issue has accelerated this outcome. The doctors have explained my situation; they can replace hips and knees, but not spines/backs. It is incumbent on me to take steps to preserve my quality of life as I enter old age.
I"ve accepted what is. But I also want to remain in the group with great friends, I want to continue to offer tech support. This has been a wonderful 15 year journey and experience.
Meeting you was part of all that. I hope you and yours are doing well.
Thanks Mark. I still drive the Convertible to the limit. My limit of course.
I must push the "edge" with a bit of responsible caution now.
The SRT6 went to another eager user. That danger is diminished.
I enjoyed our times together. God's speed in your life after Crossies..
Please stick around. Your posts are always welcomed.
