Default Warm Vent Air

Anyone else notice that the vent (w/ AC off) puts out warm air regardless of the outside temp? It's been cool (50s-60s) outside here lately, but the vent still pumps warm air into the cabin (the dials are set at the coldest settings). I'm guessing it's pulling outside air from the engine compartment, so is gets naturally heated in the engine bay. If this is a convertible only thing, then I guess I should drop the top and enjoy the little heat to offset the ambient chill!
Just checking to see if this is common among crossfires.

Yep, same with mine. Was thinking of mentioning this to the dealer but perhaps this is normal?!?! BTW mine is an SRT6 roadster.

I noticed that also. I run my air conditioner all the time. It's around 50 degrees here. Is it normal? Do our cars run the A/C all the time like the jetta ?

Thanks for the fast replies! I guess I'll just run the AC or put the windows/top down all of the time.

Question Re: Warm Vent Air

My roadster did this too about 2 weeks ago.
I "cycled" the heating/cooling system. Ran on MAX HOT and FULL FAN for 2 minutes and then MAX COOL (AC) FULL FAN for 2 minutes and it fixed itself. Maybe a sticky damper door someplace?

There is a thread on here (somewhere) also about high cabin humidity. Trying, at 5:30 am, in the dark, at 55 mph to rid yourself of thick inside condensation on the windscreen can be a tad distracting.

If you need your defroster, it seems you must turn on your A/C manually.

When I did this, the mist disappeared as if by magic! Most cars I have owned turn on the A/C automatically to reduce the moisture in the air being blown on your cold windscreen. The (mine at least) Crossfire doesn't seem to do this.

One other thing-how long does it take other folks rear defogger to remove mist from their rear window? Mine takes over 3 minutes to make a couple of lines across the window, and about 10 minutes to clear it.

I notice warm air at first too and just figured it was residual engine heat. After a while the air temp more closely represents outside air. This seems a little more exaggerated than other cars, but I've always noticed this effect.

My front defroster gives me the option of having the AC on or not. I like this, why use the AC if I don't have to?

My rear defogger works just fine.

You may not be saving energy if tour cars are like the Jetta's. I think the compressor runs all the time there is no clutch. So turning on ac just changes the air temp.
