Default Cupholder Solved (almost)

4/1/2008

It’s been a goal of mine ever since joining the Crossfire forum to solve the dilemma of the cupholder design. I made an observation while driving with a full cup of coffee in the holder, that the coffee would spill out over the front lip of the cup while driving on a level surface or while going down hill. Uphill the coffee would be level and not a drop was spilled. It dawned on me that if I put the 19” tires on the front and the 18” tires on the back this might solve the problem. Well, now with that configuration, while on the level driving surface, the coffee spilled over the back lip of the cup and it was even worse now going uphill. Down hill driving the coffee was perfectly level.

Here’s the good part. I wondered what would happen if I put an 18” on the left front and the right rear, and a 19” on the right front and the left rear. Guess what? Not a drop spilled uphill, downhill, or on the level.

The only problem I have now is that when braking hard, the right rear tire comes off the ground about, oh, I think about, 1”.

I’m determined to find the right combination of tire placement and will post my results next April fools day!

Crossfire Forum = Knowledge shared and a little fun along the way.

Just be VERY careful, if you get directional tires staggered on the wrong corners... the car will only go around in circles

Can you estimate the gain in horsepower? According to articles all over the internet modifications such as this usually provide several extra horsepower and of course that leads to significant gains in mpg as well.

The best holder I've found is to leave the cup on the roof. The car corners so well that the cup stays flat. That is, until I open the roof.

Any special cleaning fluid out there for our tops and coffee? I'm sure the Germans have come up with something.

That's almost as funny as putting masking tape on the bottom of everyone's mouse in the office!

(Yes, I'm keeping a close eye on the Crossfire in anticipation of retaliation!)

I've found that super glueing a hard plastic cup with a lid to the top of the dash board, then inserting 1/4" plastic tubing into the hole in the center of the lid, running the tube with velcro to my hat and inserting the tube into my mouth has solved all my problems. The wife however some times continues to use the "cup holder".

Dangit, now you tell me how to fix it. Just after I replaced mine with a CB radio.

Their is no gain in horsepower, but a real gain in effeciency, performance, and MPG with the staggered wheel arraingment described above. While accelerating up to 60 MPH you ride on the 19" tires and teeter back and forth on the 18"'s until you reach 60MPH and the wing goes up and from that point on your riding on just the 19" wheels (right front and left rear.) * Much less friction. Put on the cruise, and sip that fresh and level coffee. Another discovered advantage is that you only get half the brake dust because the left front 18" stops turning until you go back to 39MPH and the wing goes down.

* Please don't try this yourself. Results were observed on a closed course by a proffesional driver ( I have a CDL **)

** chuck65 not only rides the short bus, he also drives it, where he is a.k.a. Mr. Chuck.

I can't wait until April 2nd. This is getting weird. Somebody stop me !
