New mount for my V1...
Steve(32krazy) found this neat little mount that says it is for the Crossfire..... I looked at how it mounted and thought... that won't work on a Crossfire. But it did give me an excellent starting point so I bought one.
NEW VALENTINE ONE V1 RADAR LASER DETECTOR BRACKET MIRROR MOUNT | eBay
I got it on Tuesday and as I expected the clamp for the mirror mount was useless. But in taking the mirror off I found out you need to use a 5mm rod(or equivalent) and stick it in the hole on the back side of the mount and twist 90 degrees and the mirror falls off. Now the coincidentally cool thing about that is that the threaded ball stud on the clamp is a 1/4-20 thread. 5mm = ~0.20".... so I took a 1/4-20 tap and threaded the 5mm hole on the mirror mount...then I screwed the ball stud into the mirror mount and set the jam nut... seemed pretty secure but I added a nut inside the mirror mount to give it more to hold onto...
I also found that the link on the bracket is a little short and you can not adjust the V1 under the mirror correctly so it is flat and clears the little dimmer switch on the bottom of the mirror..... So I milled up a little spacer to go between the V1 bracket and the new bracket... aaahhhhh just right! A little black paint and a couple of button head screws and it should be perfect....

If you get a 2004 auto-dim mirror, you don't have to worry about the little flippy lever ....
Just sayin.
You could also utilize the same switched B+ from the HomeLink that I used to power the Valentine also, not much extra wiring would be needed - the mirror needs just 12v and ground to work, although it also has a lead for a reverse signal.
( I picked up 3 perfectly good ones for $25 each + $20 shipping from one place listed on car-part.com -
I installed one, maxcichon got one, and I kept a spare just in case )

btw this could also be used on the bracket for the 9500ix escort radar detector

Re: New mount for my V1...
My Christmas present had me searching the site for install ideas. Didn't care a whole lot for the suction cup to the windshield off the side of the mirror, but the thread did show removing the mirror. I realized that hole could probably be tapped and used to mount a bracket. I like the nut to the inside as a safety. My only concern was with the autodimming mirror, a bracket hanging down would be in front of the eye. It's hardwired into the homelink system now and suction cupped to where it hangs just below the mirror for the rear detection ability. Didn't get the v1 for Christmas.. it's a Cobra model (yeah I know..let the hating begin..lol)..but it works good enough when my route is consistant and I know where it shouldn't be going off.
Nice to see my thoughts on using that hole confirmed!

Re: New mount for my V1...
Mike are you pulling the power from one of the Homelink buttons , is that possible ,electrical crap scares the bejeez out of me..but it does look like it would be a great location to tap in.... I have a passport 9500 ,i would need a different mounting clip or do i just use the one i have ? so many questions ...

doh! just realized you have the escort. let me look at the hardwire kit for that and see . the suction cup mount for the 9500 should be able to be used like the V1 mount is
howard it looks like the escort uses the same fone jack for the power as the V1. same install then as the female fone jack input is rather large and bulky so the drivers fusebax is the best place for it

Re: New mount for my V1...
Not intending to hijack the thread here, but this is the first thread I've seen regarding the Valentine 1 (and its mounting), so I thought I would add some pics of an alternative crossfire/slk-specific mounting arrangement.
I think that this mount Steve found (and then MikeR made work) is super cool (and an awesome value) .... I just don't like things hanging from the rearview ... that's just me (since I often watch the road/track through the windshield of the guy in front of me, I am sensitive to this issue)
Also, if you use the remote display for your valentine, you don't necessarily need the receiver right in your face anyway.
This install did require that I cut-down (shorten) the passenger visor, but I feel that with the V1 tucked up and out of the way, it is less likely to invite a sticky fingered passer-by to reach into the car ... so it was worth sacrificing a visor (I had a spare : ).
Still left to add is a cover (to the rear) made out of some Perspex 962 (black, yet transparent to infrared light (at least at 904 Nm where laser operates)) leftover from a hidden laserjammer install.
NOTE alternative TENNIS BALL placement as well (pic 3) .... I like to back in and the ball positioned thusly aligns both my X and Z axes : )

Re: New mount for my V1...
.... Also, I mentioned the remote display (a very worthwhile add-on to this awesome radar detector), so I will share a few pics of my integration into my SLK32
the remote display cost about $49 .... I changed some of the LED colors (seems like I spent a total of $8 or less for 1206 LEDs from DIGIKEY, I'll dig up the part numbers if anyone is interested). Additionally, to fit it in this tight spot, I had to shorten it (by cutting off the portion of the PCB with the mute button). Worth mentioning, .... the mute button can be mounted anywhere in the car (see attached drawing)

Re: New mount for my V1...
How about taking this old Stealth V1 install idea and incorporating it with the new Cobra/iRadar detector?

Re: New mount for my V1...
The SLK32 is somewhat rearview impaired to begin with, so i would have to think long and hard before I gave up any of the mirror (I cant imagine the crossfire is much different in this regard). However, there is such an undeniable coolness to the integration of Valentines remote display into a rearview mirror that I considered it briefly a couple of yeas ago (before I went in-dash instead). The auto-dimming feature of the mirror seemed to preclude doing this (although that may not be a real hurdle now).
Can't comment on the cobra unit ... I always assumed they only made airport (and supermarket door) detectors ... (ok, that might have been harsh) The marketing seems impressive. I'll look over their hardware one of these days.

It's found cops before I did so far. Guess a little common sense works pretty good too..
