Default Convertible headliner important to repair?

Yesterday both of the fabric strips that run along the inside liner have become detached from the inside front edge of the convertible top. Is this an important item to repair? If important to repair I could glue the top edge to the inside edge of the convertible top header. Has anyone had any success of securing this to the convertible top header?

Thanks for any info/assistance you can give to this Newbie

Odd, I do not think I've ever heard of this.

I don't know if this is an important part of the convertible headliner. I MAY protect/support the liner from the metal frame but I can't find any information on this part.

Each strip runs along the outside edge of the convertible headliner and each attaches to the front edge of the convertible frame. Both became detached from the metal frame of the convertible.

I thought I would try using Gorilla Ultra Duty Glue and use strong magnets to secure the glued edges until the glue sets and hopefully that will do the repair.

I cross-posted this on Facebook. Let's see what the reaction is.

I will look my car over tomorrow night and see what I think. Gotta tell ya, aftrer three Roadsters over ten years and around 100,000 miles, I never ran into this.
Was the top replaced or worked on recently?

Those straps are replaceable , but you have to remove the top to do it. Mine have been deteriorated for a couple of years. I do plan on replacing them when I replace the top.

Each end of that strap is made of an elastic material to keep it taut as the top goes up and down. When we replaced the top on the blue roadster I sourced the strapping and the elastic strap and had an upholstery shop make new ones for me. The elastic on each end of the original straps was all rotted out. That is probably why the strap in the photo is hanging loose. Replacement straps (pads) are available at TopsOnline.com. The top fabric has to be off to replace them.

Part # 05170488AA - STAYPAD SERVICE KIT. This is the original part number and like many of the part numbers may have changed to a new number.

My strap on the passenger side has been torn since I got my '05 two years ago. I bought some replacement strap material but as others have said, it appears to require removing the top in order to replace/reattach the strap. I'm going to watch the video again made by ZERACER on replacing the top. (See the sticky on "Convertible Top Replacement Video".) I'm guessing that by removing only the front edge of the top, you might have access to the attachment point for the strap. Maybe folks who have replaced the top will chime in.

I just tuck the strap back into the top whenever I raise the top. I think the strap probably gives a smoother look to the exterior of the convertible top when it is correctly in place and taut. Otherwise, I can't see any additional wear from my broken strap. But I know I need to fix it.

There is also a string on the passenger side that has torn/broken loose. (I don't know if there's a similar string/cable on the driver's side.) But, that string/cable seems to be more critical to keeping the top from banging into the top of the windshield frame. I need to fix that, soon. At this time, I have to keep a hand on the leading edge of the top as it starts to go down. And when it's coming up, I need to have a hand up to catch it for a moment until the rear of the top is completely in the closed position. Anyone who can help me with that, I'd sure appreciate it.

My straps are in the same condition. I also have that string hanging down and have to keep the top from coming down hard. If someone could elaborate on this "string" and what it does and how to fix. I watched the top replacement video and didn't see anything about it.

they are stay pads. they prevent wear from movement of the top against the frame. everytime i replace a top i make sure those are in good shape along with the tension cords. neither are avilable from the dealer anymore. i came across a aftermarket top place once that sells aftermarket replacement stay pads. as far as the tension cords go. i just make my own.

Edit: i take it back, the stay pads are available again from the dealer for $275.00.

I found a place that has them for $190.00. I think I paid something around $64.00 about six years ago when I replaced my top.
