Hello, I Have An Important Question To Ask
Hi. I've been trying to find a cheap enough deal on a Crossfire for a long time now and I came across somebody who is selling a brand new 2005 SRT-6 with 10 miles on it for $12, 000 American. I know it sounds stupid already, that's what I said too so I questioned this person. They live in the UK and bought this car from California. He said he's selling it for so cheap because when he bought it, he didn't realize that the Crossfire didn't have EUR 3 in it, so he couldn't register it in the UK without having an individual procedure for it done from the Government, pass several technical tests and make lot's of changes to the car which he figured was too expensive so he wanted to sell it back to the U.S. Now here's where I come in. I live in Canada, so I said I was intrested. 12000 US dollars comes to 15 grand Canadian. Plus the shipping from the UK to here and what not, I want to use DAS. I'm unsure of what the rate there would be, but I also wanna know if anybody knows what kind of taxes and custom fee's are ontop of something like this? As well as, being in canada and this being an American car, will I have to change the guages or does the law care about that? I've checked everywhere but cant find that answer. When it's all said and done, if this pulls through, i've got a car that's worth $65 grand Canadian, for i'm guessing 20 grand or a little more? I'd sell it once it got here then buy a used regular Coupe 04 Crossfire, that way I own the car, owe no debt to the bank and have some money to spare in my pocket. Any feedback would be appreciated
I saw the same ebay offer and sent them a message. It looks like I got the same exact reply. The offer says the car is in California, but it's not, it's in England, at least that's what they say in the email.
I would have travelled to California to check it out in person, but I won't waste a trip to England. $12,000 is a LOT of money to risk, even a trip to England is a lot to risk. The whole offer smells bad. I'm not even going to risk $7.95 on the CarFax report.
Unless one of our forum friends in England could check it out I wouldn't even start.
They say the US title is clear, BUT the car is in England. ??
Titles come from individual States not the federal gov.
If they have your $15,000 Candian, and you don't have a car, what can you do?

I agree, it does smell bad. I would of went to Cali too, but then he emails me and says its in Liverpool. I just couldn't help but believe it because of his feedback rating and ratio... I dunno though, I know if anybody does screw you on eBay they don't get too far. All I want is that car and the lowest price i found is 35 grand, i guess i got hyped over nothing. Thanks for the heads up though, i'll ask this guy about it. The offer was to be up for 3 days and it expired today as well, which is another issue....
this is a SCAM!....the same scam happened to a guy on the bmw boards and he LOST all of his money and used paypal for "so called" protection.
lol ^^ that'd be a good idea
But yeah, i think it's a scam too because i've been pushing it with him as far as i could without sealing the deal and i'd be a complete lunatic to do this deal. He won't negotiate nothing, which automatically makes me suspicious as it is. Here is what makes me think it's a scam:
- $12, 000 for a 2k5 SRT6? Come on....
- The bid was supposed to be up for 3 days on eBay but as soon as I contacted him, it "expired".
- He is offering to pay half of the shipping, so he's already losing so much money that it's too hard to even fathm...
- I said I wanted to use DAS to ship the product so I can track down where it is on the internet at all times and he said no, he already made arrangments to use UK's Terraship. I'm the buyer, I should have the right to use whatever saftey measure's I want to insure I get my product.
- Then I said I wanted to use Escrow so that if i don't get my product, i have insurance that they will send me my money back and i wouldn't have to worry about being scammed, i'd lose the 200 bucks spent on Escrow and thats it but thats well worth it from 15 grand i'd be spending... he said no again and said he will only use eBay's security thing.
On the whole, this guy is either trying to scam me and take my money, or he actually has the car but is doing it his way because the car is hot (stolen). That's my theory, it's a brand new 2k5 SRT 6 with 10 miles on it, you dont just order a car from America and expect it to be ready for safe driving in the UK when it gets to you. The driver wheel will always be on the left in America. So then you get frustrated and sell it back but are too scared to get most of your money back so you sell it for dirt cheap? Does he honestly expect me to believe him this whole time just because I keep asking questions on making a deal? Come on, if i'm gonna be in debt for 2 years, i'm not going to f*** around with my money, period.

If you want to ship and register the car in Canada you will have to have the car converted..
For example, the odometer and instrument cluster will have to read primarily kilometers. There may be some other changes as well. Is the car right hand drive. If so, that will be a problem as well. BTW, from an earlier post, the U.K. vehicles are in miles.
Its not worth the effort or the risk. This whole thing sounds fishy and he doesn't seem to want to cooperate with you. Look around for a good resale in Canada if you don't want to pay new car price.

the car is from the United States so nothing should have to be converted I don't think... except the Odometer yeah, but i didnt think that was much of a problem. ASnd being that it is from America, the wheel will be on the left hand side which is the same side we use here so thats all good. It's just, if I cant use Escrow or DAS, i cant rely on it being real... how can i trust simply just EBay security, there's so many ways to screw eBay....
It's not that i don't want to pay the new car price, it's just that i can't pay the new car price. The price for a new SRT-6 here is $65, 000. If I were to pay that much on a car, i'd better be living in it. Even just the regular '04 Coupe is 50 grand. I have found one near by me for $33, 000 which i'm thinking of buying. No shipping or nothing, it's all set... But I will have this car eventually lol I think I might just wait till June when my motorbike is payed off. I'm sure by then tehre will be even better deals on used ones.
