I bought the car almost eight months ago, and in that time, this has happened to me about four times.
Namely, after stopping the car in a parking lot, turning off the engine, and removing the key from the ignition, I started hearing strange noises inside the center console on the right side, where the passenger's feet are. It was like a ticking sound at varying frequencies. Each time, I hit the right side of the center console with my open hand, and the strange noises stopped. Today, something similar happened to me, but right after I got in the car and wanted to start my journey. I turned the key in the ignition, started the engine, and the strange noises started again, but at the same time, the red light on the blower control ****, which had been turned off, started flashing erratically. So, I turned the blower control **** to turn on the fan, and the strange noises stopped. I'm wondering if this is an electrical or mechanical problem.

Has anyone experienced this with their Crossfire?
Can you offer any advice?

Has the passenger side carpet been wet at any time? There are electronic components under the carpet on the passenger side.

 

@M60A3Driver No, the passenger footwell carpet wasn't wet. When I bought the car, I immediately bought rubber mats.
In the photo below, I've marked in red where the strange noises are coming from - in my opinion.
I briefly visited an auto electrician's workshop, who initially determined that there were various air conditioning flaps in that area, and that those might be the problem.
The electrician said he'd have to disassemble the center console and check.

 

You might want to check the vacuum line from the intake manifold to the AC. Make sure it's not leaking as that could cause the flaps to behave erratically.

I'll take it to the mechanic who fixed my car's air conditioning in March. Probably, he might be the best person to fix it.

 

There are no "Air Conditioning flaps" in that area - you are falling for an acoustic trick, the sound most of us here comes from behind the glove box cavity.

If you can document what was fixed with the AC to us here that could be helpful is seeing if there is a correlation. There are many knowledge people here who can help. For example Pizzaguy is just brilliant at explaining systems.

There is another vacuum line that runs under the battery too. The HVAC module has two *****. The fan speed **** controls power to the fan and that has been known to fail including the fan resister. The second **** has a mechanical linkage to a valve that controls the damper flaps.

Your welcome! Oh yeah, I remember reading that thread. Excellent. That covered most of the other issues.

 

Yesterday, mechanic Konrad checked the air conditioning system and found it to be fine.
So, as pizzaguy pointed out, the problem is likely the electronic controller located in the center console above the radio.

 

Did you ever figure out the issue?? My crossfire is having the same issue, a strange buzzing coming from the cigarette lighter area. Whenever I smack it, it stops. But it always comes back. Did you figure this out and how did you fix it?

 

@Raven Deaton Unfortunately, it's not possible to buy a new air conditioning control unit; only used ones are available online.
So I decided there was no point in spending money on a used one, as it might behave just like the one I currently have in my car.
