We will leave the light on! Anytime you think you might be in the area just drop us a note. We all love to drive and everyone has their own special road they love to drive.

I used to tavel all over Colorado by car, in my past life and 4 Corners was one of my favorite places to travel and stay. That trip over Red Mountain Pass (Million Dollar Highway) into Cortez through Durango and back over Wolf Creek Pass (hwy 160) to the Springs was a great ride. Sometimes I would work my way across Hwy 50 along the Akansas River, other times I'd go through Grand Junction on I-70. I will say, the run to Craig from Glenwood Springs and on to Steamboat Springs and home was a great drive too. There are so many places to drive in this state, through the mountains, but you need lots of time. Everywhere I've talked about is over 360 miles one way.

We drive around 150 to 200 when we take our afternoon runs.

Hmm, maybe a Crossfires Across America event in Colorado in 2012?

Yeah.... I almost forgot. Durango was another rally that I would go to every year. The ride from Durango to Ourey was always on the top of my list. Well, I guess Silverton to Ourey is the Million Dollar Highway.

I remember one year, me and a group of friends left Durango about 6 in the morning to head to Ourey. I had an Ultra Classic Electra Glide at the time. One of my friends handed me a CD and told me to put it in my CD player when we started on the Million Dollar Highway. So, as we passed Silverton, I put it in and cranked the volume up. I did not know what was on the CD. Well, it was of all things.... Mozart. LOL I have never been a classical music afficionado, but what the heck... I decided to let it play. It turned out to be one of the most surreal experiences of my life. Riding through the most beautiful mountain pass ever as the sun was rising jammin to Mozart.

That's a beautiful hwy just not a place to drive fast, unless you are out very eary in the morning. One of my favorite drives is in Rocky Mtn. National Park over Trail Ridge Rd. (highest continous hwy in the US) Its like being on the top of the world. It"s a slow road with lots of curves, elk, and beautiful scenery.

Hey bmorgan - I have a business lunch at Phantom tomorrow, I'll have one for you!

What do you guys think about something like this in the fall? We could have are own "tail on steroids". Open it up to anyone that would like to attend. Any thoughts?

This one's been tucked away for awhile. If you guys think of a different route the map could be changed, no problem, really easy. I would seriously love to run a two day'er. We would have to go early Sep. before the snow starts to fly in the passes. Early fall has the best weather, sunny warm days, crisp nights, and some of the best scenery on the planet. I really love the San Juan's, I use to live on the western slope for 6.5 years. This could be a great fall drive!

I used to make that run during the holiday season, its around a thousand miles. That would be a good three day trip if we wanted to see some of the sights. To do it right it would take a week, with stops at the Colorado National Monument in Grand Junction, a night in Ourey for the mineral springs, a night in Durango and visit Mesa Verde the next day, a night in Alamosa and see the Great Sand Dunes National Monument on the way home. Lots of other places to stop along the way, winery's, brewery's, orchards etc.

Bill, I really like this idea and would like to help plan more on this. Like RJ said, we can make this at least a three day event. Some things I was thinking about (all open for debate of course and hoping to draw some out of staters):

Day One:
Leave Denver (I-25/E-470) @ 8:00AM
Stop at the Garden of the Gods (55 miles) - meet and greet and drive around park - leave by 10:30AM.
Stop at K-Bobs for lunch in Canon City (50) miles - leave at 1:15PM
Stop at the Royal Gorge - 11 miles (maybe take the train at Buckskin Joes. Better view of the bridge and cheaper). Leave @ 3:30
Stop in Gunnison for the evening (115 miles) - Arrive around 6PM.
Dinner in Gunnison
Route:
Garden of the Gods, Colorado Springs, CO 80907 to Gunnison, CO - Google Maps

Day Two:
Leave Gunnison around 8:00AM
Stop at Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park (68 miles) - Leave @10:30 AM
Lunch in Montrose (nice Mexican place downtown, 19 miles) - Leave @ 12:30PM
Drive to Glenwood Springs via Delta and Cedaredge to go over Grand Mesa (curvey roads! - 143 miles) arrive around 4-5PM.
Dinner/Lodge in Glenwood Springs for the evening
Route:
Gunnison, CO to Glenwood Springs, CO - Google Maps

Day three:
Leave Glenwood Springs @10AM
Take I-70 to Dillon (92 miles)
Lunch - Leave @ 1:15PM
Take US 6 over Loveland Pass and Stop in Georgetown (32 miles) - Perhaps we can site-see or take the Georgetown Loop
Head to Denver and home
Route map:
Glenwood Springs, CO to Georgetown, CO - Google Maps

You da man Itsky. Looks good. I've done this route in two days, but its a lot of driving, and not much stopp'in. A three day driver would be perfect, it would give us some down time so our arms could recuperate from all the canyon driving.

If you drive really fast, it doesn't feel like a long drive!
Bwahahaha - I needs me a devil smiley face here.
Woohoo!!

Btw, Bill, as someone in the same line of work, I meant to tell you how much I love your sense of graphic style. You put some beautiful stuff out there, man.

Very similar to the road trips I have done in Colorado in the past.
Mine took me all the way down to Durango
My favorite town is Telluride
I logged 1560 miles over a week
This will be a beautiful run for sure guys.
If I lived out there I would do runs like this at least twice a year
