radiator fan stuck on high
so word from the mercedes specialist is it is either bad fcm or bad engine control module.they are ordering new fcm to see make sure fcm replaced by dealer is not a faulty part.
if it turns out to not be fcm theyd move to ecm
they said engine control module is $1500, has to match vin number on car and has to be programmed. all that sound correct? including price of new ecm?

Different terms for same part, yea. The service manual calls it a PTCM, the industry calls it an ECM (as I understand things, anyway).
I hope the had enough sense to read the temperature indication the PTCM/ECM is getting. But again, FCMs are known to go bad, can't say they are known to BE bad out of the box, tho.
