Just got a 2004 with only 5,600 miles!
I just got a 2004 Crossfire 6sp, Alabaster Clearcoat with Dark Slate Gray/Cedar interior. It is in like new condition with only 5600 miles. I did a bit of reading on this site before I decided to buy one, and learned a lot quickly.
My first questions will be about getting a 2nd key, and protecting the funky color interior. I intend it to be one of my main cars and will be driving it daily.

Welcome aboard and congrats on the purchase of your "new" Crossfire. Any supplier of quality auto care products will have a good selection of products to take care of your interior, I use Meguiar's products and they work great.
The 2nd key can be bought through a forum sponsor, with the link below, he provides numerous products to the Crossfire community, just click on the link.
By the way, I grew up in the South Hills of Pittsburgh, before I moved to the eastern side of the state.
Good luck with your Crossfire, this site will provide you with a vast supply of information.

Re: Just got a 2004 with only 5600 miles!
yep, the glorious carfax showed this, apparently the original owner hated it, never drove it after year 3.
Probably only drove it to get it inspected every year. They had to take it to get diagnosed at the dealer I got it from, threw a check engine code, new plugs were put in, and I don't think much else. 5,000 miles on plugs sucks. 12 years isn't bad though. And the factory manual says 100,000 or 5 years for the plugs...

Congrats! You should love it. A suggestion, please check that those are not the original tires. Just cuz they ain't cracked doesn't mean there not old and hard. I bought a 04 6 speed with 40,000 on it 5 months ago and I checked all the rubber gas and brake lines. Your probably ok but with that Lil of miles (congrats) I'd check to make sure they aren't dry rotted either.
My brother last year bought a old f150 that sat for about 20 years and it cough fire cuz of bad fuel lines. Not trying to scare, and you got a great buy just don't want to see something happen.

Re: Just got a 2004 with only 5,600 miles!
I believe EVERYTHING on the car is original, except fluids and filters, and plugs. The dealership that had it sent it to another dealership to diagnose a check engine light, and they put new plugs in it and all was well. (So I was told) The tires now have 6,000 miles on them, and look fine. I will check them in detail before any sustained highway use, but I think they are good to go, even though they are quite old. Thanks for the heads up, safety first! I feel like it is a brand new car. Now if I can find the smell in the car, I suspect there is a moth ball hidden somewhere. It is fine while driving, but when first getting in it you can smell something chemically.

Welcome to the forum Pioneer. I would have jumped on that car with both feet (and it was only 2 hours from me.) Alabaster/Cedar/Slate interior, 6 spd. is exactly what I've been driving for the last 10 years (and I've loved every minute of it). I hope you don't have to drive it in the winter. (They last longer that way).
Enjoy
Enjoy

I have no clue what moth ***** smell like in the slightest but if the car smell like wax or a sweet crayon smelling smell (you'd know what that means if you smelt it) it's just the car. Like I said I have no clue I just know that crayon smell thru me off. A lot of German crs have it

It is the glue and materials used on the interior at the factory
There are several threads here that complain of this odor and many remedies that have been tried to remove the odor many with no success
>>>Does your Crossfire Roadster smell funny?
There is a cabin filter located behind a panel under the glove box that you probably should change due to the age of the car but it probably wont resolve the problem completely

As for the tires if they are originals the age makes them dangerous no matter how new they appear
Without having a spare tire on these cars even makes it more of a concern
Your best option is to put new tires all the way around so you can go years without the risk of a complete blowout
Being new to the Crossfire this is the bible for every owner here

Re: Just got a 2004 with only 5,600 miles!
Welcome! You got a steal mine has 135k (she's a daily) and we got her at 90k about 5 years ago. I have the 04' with the NA motor (not lucky enough to have six-speed but I never miss gears ) and it feels like so much more than 215 hp. Also, I love my crayon smelling car. I think it's more of a unique trophy type of thing knowing that I belong to the best group of car owners in the world. I've been on the forum for a few months since my dad handed mine down in April, and I have already learned so much from these guys. We are truly blessed to have this forum. Enjoy your car man!

Re: Just got a 2004 with only 5,600 miles!
Thanks, I have seen those posts, but wasn't sure if mine had the same smell, maybe I'll find out at Woodward. I test drove a 2004 with 28K miles and didn't notice a smell, this one is obvious, and I assumed that since it was basically unused that maybe the P.O. put mothballs in it when stored.
And I am aware of issues with old tires, I will keep an eye on them. I recently replaced fronts on my 1967 El Camino that were still decent but over 10 years old, and most of that was in Las Vegas at my Dad's house. (It is probably harder to find large 14" rubber than the 19" for these cars)
I will also check the cabin filter, who knows what is living/growing on it.

I have read hundreds of posts and threads over the last week, and I might not have even bought one if not for the info I quickly learned on this site. I did a quick read of common problems, and it sounds like they are a typical dependable car with a few common quirks.
