New member having fun with my crossfire
Hi all, or "all Ya'all" if you're from TN. I just bought my 2005 roadster on Thanksgiving 2019.
It's a Black Basic with the 6 speed manual trans. I didn't think I would particularly want to go back to all of that shifting at this point, but this has been a very pleasant surprise. I am totally engaged while driving this manual 6 speed. I am always striving to making the shifts (up or down), smoother. It's a lot harder than it was with my old 50 chevy with 3 on the tree.
It has 54,000 plus miles on it and the previous owner had the stock wheels chromed, so it's a great looking little car, (and of course older guys like me just like chrome wheels). I'm the 3rd owner. The previous owner put on a new top, new battery, new tires, new relay, and a new alternator, (which in some ways scares me that so much has gone wrong, but so far I've been lucky.
I have had so many people come up to me at the Saturday Cars and Coffee show saying they have always thought that the crossfire was a great looking car - and so have I.
I'm researching the genealogy of the crossfire and even though much of it touts the 50/50% content of Mercedes and Chrysler, I think its more like 90/10 as many parts have a mercedes part number.
I lived in Detroit so was aware of the joint venture which was of course a rocky one. Some say that the limited production of crossfires, the nice styling, and the unique parentage might eventually make this car a classic - I hope so.
I,m tinkering with lots of little things and so far have found parts fairly easy to come by. Even though the black finish looks excellent, a really close up look reveals some gray or silver overspray that is very stubborn. I'm trying different compounds to rub it out with but so far none have worked so I'm working up in aggressiveness. I like the stiff ride and solid body that comes form the of the old SLK platform.
I'll have some questions to pose on the forum and will appreciate the help from other Crossfire Owners. I'm looking for local owners to get involved with the Cars and Coffee in Franklin TN.

If shifts are not smooth, stop driving it like it was a pickup truck. My Ford Ranger and my Crossfire both shift just fine - but if I drive the Crossfire like it was a Truck, or the Truck like it was a Crossfire - neither will shift right - especially the Crossfire. It is a SPORTS CAR, drive it as it was designed (hard to do in town) and it will be fine. Now, having said all that - I will say that changing the transmission lubricant to Mobile 1 5W20 will help. I noticed a small difference, but after ten years, you'd think the fluid would have absorbed considerable moisture.

I too am new here and learning every day. This is a terrific place for information. Your black car finish could best be revitalize with clay. Look it up on YouTube. I did it for mine (black) and used “ Chemical Guys” products. The car is so shinny it’s nearly invisible black LOL
