Default Inheritance Possibly

Good afternoon. New member as of today to try and learn more about this neat little car. I’ve inherited a 05 Crossfire Base convertible in the Blaze Red color. It has 83K miles on it. It’s a very clean little car. Well, now it is. It had been sitting for two years.
I’m still trying to decide on keeping the car or putting it up for sale.
The convertible top does not retract with the push of the button and the rear spoiler doesn’t engage either with the button. I know they both once worked. I’ve looked at everything to see about corrosion or chewing of wires. I see no issues. I don’t hear the tops motor trying to engage at all. These two issues have me thinking it may not be worth the trouble.
So, I’m here to learn about what could be the issues and go from there. I will be searching and reading a lot.
Thanks for letting me into your club.

I'm sorry for your loss, and that is a beautiful roadster.

The first thing I would do is make sure the trunk divider is closed properly. This is the partition in the trunk. It hooks into to S looking slots. If it's not in place the top will not go down.
Then make sure the battery is good. Have a load test done on it. Also check the engine fuse box and replace the fuses associated with the convertible top and the wing motor. I think they're fuses 5 and 16.
If you have to troubleshoot the top pizzaguy did a great write up, here's the link: Convertible top sensors trouble shooting.
Best of luck to you!

I'd be pulling the trim from the trunk and looking for water damage/intrusion in the CLP/SSM. A bad CLP/SSM will prevent top movement and wing movement; and water intrusion is common - Iv'e fixed four tops that would not move by replacing the CLP/SSM and the last 2 feet of wiring harness going to it. In such cases, generally, the wing won't move, either.

WHen I read that, it realized something, if the trunk lid is "jarred", that is, not fully closed, both the top and wing are paralyzed.
I had one time when my leather jacket was caught in the latch, the trunk was not quite down all the way - the top and wing wound not move. But my jacket also had the latch jammed, I could not open the trunk OR move the top.

So..................
I had a friend press down really hard on the lid so the sensor would "see' the trunk lid fully closed - and was able to partly put the top down - with the tonneau lid up, I managed to reach in and pull the emergency release, popping the trunk open. Then I could get the jacket out of the way, and close the lid fully. All back to normal.

What I am saying is: Make SURE the trunk is closed all the way. Also, the trunk latch sensor has failed in a few cars -doubt it is your problem, but thought I'd mention it.

I’m having a hard time figuring out what closed properly is on the trunk divider. Maybe I need to look at it a little closer, but what I’m figuring it to be “closed” is it set up into position. I may be completely wrong in this thinking. There is a Velcro piece that attaches it to the front of the cab area. I thought that was in its position.
Can you help this dummy out?

I did pull back the trim to look and didn’t see anything telling. I didn’t think there would be water damage because it has never sit outside in the weather it’s whole life. I did look just to make sure though. Maybe it’s where I can’t see it and I’ll look closer.

Never mind! A little Google search helped me figure that out. You were exactly right! The divider wasn’t in those clips and the top worked perfectly once it was! Thank you for that. This is my first time messing with a convertible.
Now if I can just figure out the spoiler and I’ll be good. Lol

I had the same issue with my top after getting it home. This group and one of the Facebook groups were full of mostly helpful and passionate Crossfire owners. I learned to limit what I carry in the trunk.
We also had to replace the battery the first morning we had the car. Called AAA, confirmed the battery was a goner, and was replaced with their very good warrantee. (Free replacement if it fails in three years.)
All the warning lights came on a week later. Thanks to the excellent tech papers in this Forum and real-time advice I had already ordered a new RCM and CPS. The car ran fine as I drove it to our local indy import shop with the new RCM. Dash lights stopped, car ran fine, sent the RCM to DJ Tighe for freshening up, it lives in the trunk, just in case.

I'm glad that I could be of some help with the divider.
You might want to download the owner's manual and service manual for your car here: LINK to manuals
If you're interested in do it your self maintenance you can check out my thread with a bunch of "how to" posts.
Just click on the links at the bottom of my page for what you're interested in. LINK to My journey with my 2006 roadster
Try replacing the spoiler motor fuse in the big box on the driver's side. It should have a chart in it. I think it's fuse # 5.
Good luck!
John
