Talking lookie lookie!! more hot rod progress!

I gots my new wheels and tires on today. Me likey! It started in with a light rain as I was finishing up but I had to go for a drive anyway.
Whaddya think?

I've got the front end sitting a wee bit low. I'll have to lift it back up a bit and see how it works.
The rears may need a 1/4" or so less backspacing to be perfect but these fit just like the 275/60-15s I used to have back there.
I also got my fueling issue fixed this morning. The hot rod has boost again!
Brandy-new tires, rain slicked streets, and positive manifold pressure don't mix.
Right now I'm happier than a puppy with two peters.

Feets, those wheels look great on your car. Makes me wonder if I shouldn't swap the 15" chrome magnums off my '69 for something just like em.
I sure wish the Crossfire had that same lug pattern.
I've probably said it before, but after the '68 Charger, the '65 "B" bodied Plymouth hardtops were my favorite Mopar intermediates of the 60's.
I love how the Super Stock "scoop" looks on it, but I've got two questions for ya.
Isn't that the 1963/64 style scoop that came with the aluminum front ends?
Was an aluminum front end still available on the Hemi "light weight" cars for 1965?

Nice change in shoes and socks... looks like it can run very well now.

Those look VERY good... Can't wait to see the brake upgrades on that monster.

It looks great!! What size wheel and tire package did you go with?

Yeah, it's the wrong scoop for the car. This one is a '63 - '64 Max Wedge but I prefer it to the gaping maw of the crazy big Hemi hood scoop.
I think the 65s could be had with the lightweight front end but I'm not positive.

Honestly, if it was not for the hood scoop and V shaped C pillar, I'd have no interest in this body style. Those two features (along with a sinister black) really combine to give it the old school heavy hitter look.

18x8 fronts with 245/45-18
18x10 rears with 295/45-18

The wheels are complete one-offs built from the Boyd Coddington Smoothie II wheel. There were no production wheels on the market that would fit my application. Fitting wheels to the car is easy. Fitting wheels to the car with my new brakes is a totally different story.

I get asked what the car sounds like, if it's loud, if you can hear the turbos, and other stuff. So, this afternoon, I made a quickie little video of the car from the back. It doesn't go anywhere and doesn't roast the tires in this video. Maybe I'll do that stuff later.
I simply ran it up through some rpm slowly and gave it some moderate revs a few times to capture the sound of the car.
It's cold and wet today so there's lots of condensation coming from the pipes. I replaced the fuel pressure regulator and bad section of fuel line today. The EFI needs to be tuned again now that the fuel pressure isn't dropping off. It's currently burning rich and popping a bit when the revs settle back down.

The car has a wee little cam, Edelbrock heads, distributorless EFI, 8.7:1 compression, two turbochargers, and 3" straight exhaust exiting in front of the tires. There are no mufflers. All the sound absorption is done by the turbos.

Whaddya think? YouTube linky

When I had the 2-1/2" exhaust with mufflers you didn't hear anything. It was very quiet. Quieter than new Mustangs and Camaros. The car sounded quite a bit like a new Ram.
That's what made it so fun. Everyone thought it was all show and no go.
Now that I deleted the mufflers and went with 3" pipe it sounds like a mild little street car. The big difference is that you can easily hear the turbos spooling up and down. If I'm not exciting the turbos, everybody still thinks it's a pushover.

As it is, there's a little of the old muscle car sound without the drone that comes from so many of the mufflers. It's actually quite pleasant to drive. You don't get a headache in the first 10 minutes behind the wheel.

I think it sounds great, gets my blood pumping. I like what you've done with it.
I love the new wheels.
By the way if you back it up about a foot and do another video you can rid your drive of those leaves.

Sounds GREAT!! Now that you have the new wheels, you'll have to update your picture for your sig. And of course it should be one of those smoken' ones like before. What do you think it'll run the quarter in?

Thanks, but I have no idea what it'll run in the quarter. The car isn't set up for drag racing. It's more of a cruiser right now. I'm building it with an emphasis on handling. The goal is to have a little fun on track days.

Once the chassis is stiffened up it'll hook better but the firmer suspension won't allow much weight transfer to really plant the tires. I have a feeling it'll just wiggle around and make smoke without a really careful foot. It will do that now and the suspension is much more drag friendly than it will be.

The car pushed 657 hp and 742 ft/lbs at the wheels with the blow-through carb setup. I have not dynoed it with the Edelbrock heads and fuel injection. It's never made a pass at the track but probably will in the spring.
