A 1968 Jeep I purchased new. After about two years of ownership I asked the Lord to help me get enough in trade in to get me out from under the note and into anything else. My prayers were answered when a Ford dealer took it in trade for a pickup. I had promised the Lord I would never ask for help again to get rid of a Jeep. I have kept my word.

I've never really owned a bad car, I guess I was lucky

but a friend of mine's dad bought his son a nissan pulsar for his first car. my buddy hated it so much(because his dad bought his brother a mustang cobra was the main reason) he wrecked it on purpose about a month later by hitting a port-a-john about 40 mph. anyway his dad was like I'm only ever going to buy you nissan pulsar's, to this day kevin has owned like 15 nissan pulsar's that have died in various ways.

top 3 memorable car deaths
pulsar trying to go muddin
pulsar hitting the port-a-john
pulsar getting ran over by a 79 bronco with 44" inch tires and 490 under the hood

1966 yellow 6 banger Mustang which I paid $225 for in 1975. Top speed of 85 MPH going downhill with the wind behind me. Put my feet through rusted out floorboards. Replaced every part on it at least once (starter at least three times). My sister later bought a Mustang 2 (big mistake) which was junked at three years of age for mechanical problems. I still can't bring myself to look at another Mustang!!

It's that darn flux capacitor. It's a ***** to replace, and it blows everytime you go over 88 mph.

My worst car was a baby blue 1982 Mercury Zephyr. My dad drove it as our family car for four years or so, then he gave it to my sister to take to college. She graduated and bought a new Thunderbird, and gave me the Zephyr. By the time I got it, rust had become it's new best friend, and some wonderful person in Pittsburgh had smashed up the passenger side front door. So my dad took pity on me, and we went to the junk yard and bought a used trunk lid, passenger door and hood - all primer grey. Then I used a grinder to grind off all the spots of rust down the sides of the car, and painted over the bare metal with more grey primer. My dad told me he would buy me the matching paint so I could paint over the primer spots and primered body panels, but he never got around to it. So I drove it for a couple years - to college and work - with primer spots and different colored hood, trunk, and door. My friends called the look "urban camoflage." The poor car ran like crap, and drank about a quart of oil a month. It would also throw check engine lights all of the time, and I never did find out why. It ate through starter motors like they were crispy cremes. We must have replaced the starter on it six times or more. You couldn't keep the car in drive when sitting at a red light, you had to shift it to neutral or it would stall. It had a zero to sixty time of just under 15 minutes or so. It had trouble going up hills, and I would actually go different routes around steep hills.

Man, I hated that car. I hated it with a passion. Finally one day, it was time to get rid of it. The best I could get for it was $35 from the junkyard, and I think that was only because it had decent snow tires on it, and a good die hard battery. My friends and I took pictures of it as it went away, we were jumping up and down and cheering, hooting and hollering as if they had just torn down the statue of Sadaam Hussein. I replaced it with a 1989 Mustang 4 banger. It didn't fare much better - ran like crap - and quickly became a rattle trap. That soon got replaced by a Mitsubishi Eclipse, and I left my hatred of Ford products behind, never to be revisited!

In fairness to my dad, I should mention that many years later, while cleaning out the garage, I found the matching paint for the Zephyr. My dad must have bought it - I know I didn't. He probably even told me where it was, but I never listened at that age, so I got to drive the urban camoflage Zephyr.

I owned a 79 Vette with the L82 motor. I had a 650 Holly double pumper carb, Edelbrock cylinder heads, performance RPM cam shaft and lifters, and headers Although i never had any issues during the entire time I owned the car, I remember there being an initial lag when you stepped on it from a stand still. However, once it got past the hesitation it cackled like a witch in heat and was off. I still remember the sweet race car sound of that performance engine. Its only downside was being an automatic.

The worst car I ever owned was...a 1974 Gold AMC Gremlin. Yeh, buddy. How many people can say they've owned the number 1 car on "The Ten Worst Autombile List." It belonged to my (now wife) before we were married. What ever stories you may have heard regarding that automobile does not begin to totally unfold its' true nature: stalling in rain due to the distributor cap being located in the very front of the engine behind the fan, aerodynamics and handling capabilities best described as, "the-first-nail-in-your-coffin", et., etc.

I am just glad to have survived its' ownership.

Distributor located in the front of the engine? Oh, just like big block Chryslers, and Fords. I believe it was placed in the front of the motor for easy access. By the way, in 1974 AMC used a GM Delco distributor. (usually considered pretty dependable)
Granted, a car with that short of a wheel base wouldn't be that great of a handler with a V8, it was a tad nose heavy. But with a heavy duty suspension they really weren't that bad. Especially when you consider the other two sub-compacts in its class were the Pinto and Vega, then the Gremlin wasn't such a bad alternative after all.
I bet you had to replace the freeze plugs, and probably the rear hatch.

The small block Ford (260/289) has the distributor in the front. That is the reason it was used in the Sunbeam Tiger. GM or Chrysler would not fit because of the distributor. That is why Chrysler dropped the Tiger after buying Rootes...Gary PS Never had any water problems driving the Tiger...

Arado, didn't you have to remove part of the dash to change the rear spark plugs in a Tiger?

Funny thread, figured I'd chime in...

My worst car: a '93 Honda del Sol. Nothing really happened to the car... it had no pickup. It drive like a shopping cart. It rattled no matter what I did and the seats were uncomfortable. And it burned oil.

Some of the worst of other people I know...

A very old Chevy Biscayne (spelling?). My mom won't buy another GM because of it.

'80-something Hyundai. It was a 4-cylinder that only got about 9 miles to the gallon because the engine was so awful. Constantly falling apart. Got about $100 trade-in.

Several Kias from the early 90's - today. I know people with brand new ones that are falling apart.

An '80-something Toyota that was rusted out within 50,000 miles and would slide around on dry roads.

Thumbs down Re: The worst car you've EVER owned

A 1984 full size Buick Lesabre with a 2.8 V6 !!! It had a weak cylinder and was sooo underpowered and riddled with vacuum hoses it barely moved. Took it to an auction once , and bought a engine stand. Had to put the stand in the trunk with the deck lid all the way open. On the way home, it overheated because of the drag from the open trunk ! What a piece of crap !!!!!!!!!! I think it holds a world record for the most vacuum lines ever put on a motor vehicle.

1990 Ford Aerostar...I bought it to sell copiers as most of the other salespeople owned them. Bought it new with 5 miles on the odometer. Once it got 1,050 miles on it, just about everything you can think of/imagine broke! I STILL HATE THAT VEHICLE AFTER ALL THESE YEARS!!!!!!!!!!! Anyone named Henry Ford with a number after his name should be shot!

Worst had to be a 2 year lease on a '95 Plymouth Neon Sport Coupe (1st year)! It was in the shop 5 times. The car would just quit at the wrong times due to the fuel sending unit (twice). Car had 1/8th a tank of gas and would run out of gas? Can you say "Faulty Gauge"? I'm just glad I was able to give it back to them after the lease was up.
