Re: clear wheels via sema...
I can honestly say that on a show vehicle where you were trying to show off some sort of unique brake system (six piston calipers, new pattern for cross drilling and slotting, etc) then they are perfect.
For average daily or cruiser, they may be okay, but it will be nearly impossible to keep clean as previously stated and would be much harder on brake components and bearings due to heat soak.
For performance driving, forget it... never work. Brakes would burn off or catch fire, rotors would warp for sure and the clear effect would be lost after a few laps. Probably couldn't get them clean again without removing the clear part (polycarbonate) and resurfacing it or replacing it (probably not a cheap option).
Nice novelty for sales exhibits, but not much more.

Wow!!! Science fiction turned to fact...I wondered how long it would take until transparent aluminum made it to the market. Too bad that "Scotty" didn't live to see it. I suppose the next application will be cars themselves. However, I still want some level of privacy while driving my car...sometimes I have to scratch an itch in an awkward place.

I suspect they're polycarbonate (Lexan).
They look cool.
Under high stress (like that applied by a lug nut) polycarbonate cold flows.
Which means they will become loose very quickly.
Re-torque those lug nuts every time you drive the car.
In a couple of weeks you'll torque the nuts and their backing plate through the wheels which will solve your problem.

I'd like to see them in some type of style, especially one that allows for brake cooling, then they'd be pretty cool. One thing though, you'd better make sure your brakes look GREAT and I don't mean just a Brembo set up either, I mean painted calipers and hubs at the very least. Some will make them and yes, someone will buy them!
