C6 or E46 M3
Some other suggestions comparable to the M3
The cadillac CRS-V is very performance oriented (same v-8 as in the new 'vette). It's severe angles arent for everyone, but I think they look very good in black or silver.
There are also rumors of Chrysler putting out a convertible version of the upcoming 300 series coupe. There is already a pretty heavy aftermarket set-up to do this conversion, and chrysler unveiled a 300 convertible concept recently (Take a look). I like the boxy, angular shapes of the american sedans - I also liked the snub-nosed looks of the previous generation 3 series. The newer styles don't really appeal to me as much.
I love the performance you would get out of a 'vette, but the gas mileage...I think we're going to see $3.00 a gallon premium gas before years end, and the xfire's about as gas-guzzling as I'm willing to go. My next car will almost certainly be a hybrid (Honda's Accord hybrid has 250 horsepower and a 0-60 in the lows 60's, so I think we'll be seeing sports cars with hybrid engines in the next couple of years - Mitsubishi had a concept Eclipse using hybrid technology that had 310 horsies).

Re: C6 or E46 M3
damn man, your numbers are WRONG!
called a CTS-V, my friend just got one.
the Eclipse concept had 400HP.
and i would get a RS4.
but if i had to choose between a Vette c6 or a M3 then i would go M3, (new M3 is going to be V8 based)
but if it was a Z06, then defintly Z06 over M3 and RS4, just no matching the Z06 for any other car under 150k.

Re: C6 or E46 M3
I think Epyon said it. M3 but if it were a Z06 then you already know. The crossfire is a great car and for the price you can't beat the style. The srt is a nice car too, but these are not in the league as the aforementioned cars. I love my car but there is no such thing as a true sports car with no clutch. If I had the cash the day I bought my car M3 is what I would drive. But as it turns out I get the same panties drop effect in the Xfire. They love it especially because the tints are so dark the start stripping in the car.
M3 0-naked 4.8 seconds
rs4 0-naked 6.5 seconds
xfire 0-naked 4.3 seconds

I checked on the Eclipse Concept I was referring to (It is officially called The Eclipse Concept-E) and I've seen HP ratings anywhere from 280 to 470 horsepower (for example, here: http://www.import-heaven.net/specs_m...oncept_e.shtml), so I'm not sure what the official numbers are - if you say 400, that's good enough for me. The numbers aren't as important as the point I was trying to make - that hybrid engines are becoming powerful enough that soon they'll be in performance cars as well.
I agree that Z06's are awesome cars for the money, but I would still rather have an M3 - the interior is much nicer, BMW service is much better than GM service (I used to work at a pontiac dealer - I would never want a company to treamt me the way GM instructs dealers to treat their customers), and a Z06 gets very poor gas mileage. I will grant that if I had enough money to buy a Z06 then the price of gas wouldn't be very important to me, but there's still a sense of social responsibility - for the same reason I'd never own an H2, even if I liked them. I just can't justify being that much of a drain on society's limited resources (does that make me a pinko flag-pissing long-haired hippie commie punk?)
Re: C6 or E46 M3
Xeth, I use to own a 99 C5, and I got 22mpg mostly city driving. Last model Z06 is rated at 30mpg on the highway. And the C6 is no exception, corvettes get great gas mileage. And As far as the new m3 goes, they better do alot with it, because I hate the way these new BMW's are looking. BMW is doing something that I didn't think was possible, turning me into a Mercedes Benz guy.
I would have to take the M3, but can't beat a Z06. But for the price of the new Z06 i would just buy a used 996 911 Turbo.
And the CTS-V does not use the LS2, currently used by such cars as the 05 GTO and C6. It uses the LS6 which was from the 2001-2004 Corvette Z06. Car and Driver just got a cts-v to out accelerate and out handle a 300 SRT-8. Ran 13.1@110. Crazy for a big car like that. But the srt-8 was right behind it at a 13.2. Wish they made a coupe of that in a manual. I would so own one.

Re: C6 or E46 M3
had an 02' M3...but got bored of it. had a new C4 vette...back in 92'.
i would probably go for the C6...it looks good and has a euro flare to it. the problem is...if i can get bored of an M3 in only 2 years...a C6 would only take 6 months or so.
i would love to beat on a C6 though.

The CTS-V is the better handler hands down, it pulls as much G's as a Crossfire, now thats impressive. The more I think about it, I think that is going to be my next car. CTS-V rocks, especially with the huge aftermarket for it. Don't be suprised when you see a stock one run 12's. As it is bound to happen. And especially with caddy resale value lol. Buy one for 25k a year from now. They are as bad as teh crossfire, the SRT-6 will be tempting if they drop like crazy like the regular crossfire. Though that auto only kills it.
