Default Completely Gutted Now

Finally ! Had to have a friend come over and help remove the AC / Heater Core housing and now the interior is completely gutted and going in for a full roll cage as soon as I can get the car down to Auto Power Industries in San Diego.

Still have to re-route the coolant hoses and remove the plumbing from the AC compressor and the compressor itself.

Does anyone know if the compressor has sealed lubed bearings, or does the oil in the (fake) freon lubricate the compressor bearings ? The reason I ask is, I may have to leave the compressor in place even though the system plumbing has been removed and the "FREON" drained.

I'll post some pictures when I get the chance... the car's a mess inside right now... There's more wiring in this damn thing than the Space Shuttle.

What's the total weight loss now? Also, how much further are you going to take the performance?

Even though I have not taken the car back to CAT scales, (last weight was 2,740) I would guess the remaining parts removed (AC/Heater unit) were somewhere in the range of 40 lbs.

I'm going to take it as far as my check book lets me... I have to get the cage done next week ($1,500), then I have to install the safety fuel cell which was $785. The Schrick cams were $1,400 and the install is going to be $600.

That's about all I can afford to do right now... But I'm going to have to commission someone to build custom headers since the Super Sprint did not work.

I'll keep you posted... But it's going to take some time...

I too am curious as too how much power the car will make with the cams as well. With the weight reduction I bet the car is about 2-3 tenth faster in the quarter mile, even though your not into that type of racing, it would be cool to see none the less. Too bad you can't really get true duals on your car out there in Cali.

I'll get to the dyno eventually, have to take the car down to San Diego next week for the roll cage, then bring it back up here to have the cams installed.

The Startech guy told me that the cam can gain 40 hp. Is that possible?

I think he's being a bit generous on that claim. All the dyno results I've seen on V6 engines about our size show HP gains of anywhere from 7-13 with a mid-range cam. We're still seeing that magic number of about $100 per HP on aftermarket performance parts.
