Capture your drive
While at SEMA I ran across a great new product, the Motorsports Hero camera. I have become a dealer and ordered the Motorsport Hero cameras. I am going to offer this camera at a $40 discount off list and sell it for $139.99 plus S&H to forum members in the US.
This is the same price as the standard camera with a wrist strap. The Motorsports version comes with a number of mounting options. Quick release mounts, a suction cup mount, helmet mount and more. I am including an image with the info on it. They are supposed to ship me right after Dec 1st. I have 12 definitely coming in and can order more but the quatities are going to be limited because it is a HOT item.
The camera shoots 3 MP stills (glass lens) and 30 FPS videos in the AVI format and is compatible with PCs and Macs.
I have one of the standard units and used the wrist strap to strap it to the grille. Amazing video on a simple trip to the Post Office. The videos on the site are awesome as well. This is a great little camera to have around at any time and makes a dynamite track recorder for those running at the drags or road courses. Even a liesurely drive through the hills becomes exciting when you see the video from a car's view. You can visit their site at www.goprocamera.com to see some of the videos or just search Hero3 on youtube.
A friend of mine has a racing Miata and has used it to video his front suspension moving under load. He plans to use the mounts for a number of things including one camera pointing to the front and another to the rear for even more detail. He is also talking about a third to mount on the dash facint him so he can record his reactions as well.
If you want to research this little gem be sure to look up the Hero3. It is the latest version of the camera (2 batteries instead of one, SD Card slot holds up to 2GB of memory vs non-expandable built in memory. Plus it appears the housing is more substantial. And of course no auto/helmet mounting.)
If you are interested in being one of the first to get one of the new Motorsports version for the price of the standard Digital Hero3, send me a PM.

Karl, those are very cool... and cheap... I usually use these http://www.iconixvideo.com/ for work when shooting chase scenes etc. But they are much more expensive and designed for broadcast / film work... Nice find...

HDDP,
Those are very NICE! When I grow up maybe I will be able to get one myself LOL.
For the time being the Motorsports Hero will have to do. BTW while I was at SEMA there were several of the track promoters saying that they were going to offer them to people who attend events.
Can't wait to see the Magnificent Beast in action!

No offense taken whatsoever. The little Motorsport Hero's are supposed to ship to me next week. Great camera to capture car, boat, bike etc. action. Very small and light weight. 3 asked for and I have 12 coming in.
Maxwell,
The camera you are talking about is for backing up help. The Motorsports Hero is specifically designed for sports. You can record a simple drive through the mountains or a day at the track. The recorded image is amazing.
Please refer to the first post in this thread for pricing and to see more go to http://www.goprocamera.com/
I have only ordered the Motorsports version because it comes with all the various mounting capabilities. They are scheduled to ship to me next week.

Check the videos on YouTube. Here is an example using the wrist version. http://youtube.com/watch?v=1zbk3bICdjI
I have this and it is difficult to strap to the grille. The Motorsports version comes with a variety of quick release mounts specifically for vehicles. It even has a suction cup mount as well.

You would have to buy or rig up something to hold your video camera. It would also be unlikely you could tape it to your helmet, side of your car or bike, or mount it on the grille.
The Motorsports Hero is specifically designed to do all these things at a very low cost.
