Hate to tell you this........but there is absolutely nothing relating to a particular manufacturer in the current NASCAR vehicles.....except the decals that say they are a certain brand. That's why I quit following/attending their races and think they should be forced to change their name as there is not a single "stock car" on the track...except the pace car. Manufacturer points are the biggest joke in the series.

Could have sworn the engines were still "manufacturer" specific...

At last weeks race they said that while Penske was leave'n Dodge that Dodge was not leave'n NASCAR. I agree about NASCAR ain't about stock cars anymore It used to be that they had to build and make available to the public a certain number (at least 500 I think) of the same car as they ran on the track. Hell I can remember when the drivers got out of the car to help with pit stops. I'd love to see it like it used to be. Run What You Brung!

Agreed totally. It's the homogenization of brands that caused me to abandon Nascar and start following Formula-1.

Formula-1 has its share of political issues, but the cars are all quite different in behavior.

Talking Re: Dodge out of Nascar?

I always record the race, and watch the wrecks and last 10 laps, other than that there is little to watch. I used to enjoy watching Petty pulling the Fords around the track with the hemi until they over revved and blew. Now the faster cars are weighted down to make it all even. Helll I used to like the cheating, that there is good, I dont care who you are. Woody

When I was a young man, NASCAR was far more about the manufacturers hardware than the drivers.
The old saying, "What wins on Sunday, sells on Monday". was the Big 3's motto.
Sure everybody had their favorite driver, but usually that decission was made strictly by what car they drove.
Nascar racing reached it's pinnacle for me with the Charger Daytona/Plymouth Superbirds. To do something that outrageous just to win a race speaks volumns of Chryslers dedication and willingness to take chances. Sure we laughed at them on the streets, and dealers had to practically give em away, but now they are the "Darlings" of the collector car hobby.
I never did figure out how Ford got away with using the Boss 429 in Nascar Racing when the only car you could get it in was a Stang.
I had high hopes for the revival of TransAM racing to make a comeback, what with the Mustang/Camaro/Challenger but it never happened.
I think the IROC series is what really got the whole "It's all about the drivers" attitude started, because that's about the time I lost interest.
I fully agree with Dan's statement. Because as far as I know, that aint no Hemi in those Dodges, or a Shelby GT500 motor in the Fords, or a ZL1 in those Chevys, and certainly no Tacoma V8 in those Camarys. Sure they may be "manufacturer specific" but so what, the average buyer can't get their hands on anything remotely similar.

I doubt that Dodge is leaving Nascar, but it really doesn't matter to me either way.

Dodge is definitely not leaving NASCAR - they just introduced their 2013 Sprint Cup Charger at today's race in Las Vegas.

I used to watch NASCAR when I was a kid, back when the cars were pretty much stock cars. My only interest in it today is that the company I work for, Meguiar's, has a couple of opportunities to wrap the #16 Roush Fenway Racing Ford Focus in our colors.... like we did today in Vegas.

Otherwise, give me F1, WRC or LeMans and I'm a happy guy.

The King "Petty"blew 'em all away and then Nascar banned the Chrysler Corp (Dodge and Pymouth) Superbirds. Quit watching since them. I don't blame Dodge if they pull out.

I have attended 3 NASCRAP events(because I was given free tickets) and I walked out on all 3 from being bored out of my mind. The longest I lasted was 45laps and I was looking for a pillow to sleep on.
I like Waldig's idea of taping it for the wrecks as that is the only thing that makes it worth watching.

PS I wish I couldve seen it back in the day when they were real cars and not just a cage with a clip on body that has decals for headlights.
