Now I need some advice / help! AC system / heater control valve assembly
Well . . . I took my SSB SRT6 roadster up to J S Benz in Miami so they could track down the gremlins and root them out.
Seems that the wires connecting the OAT (outside ambient temperature) sensor to the instrument cluster had a break somewhere. Also I did find out that if the OAT system is not working (reading -36 F) it WILL disable the air conditioning as well as affecting other systems in the car. That OAT system is not just to let the driver know the outside temperature. It communicates with the ECM computer and affects fuel mixture and other things!
Also the wiring harness connecting fuse #15 to the heater control valves had a break somewhere.
They ran new (nicely and carefully hidden) wires to both systems and everything is now working as it should and looks factory fresh. NICE WORK!
Only problem is that my wallet much lighter!

Bob , that was a nice piece of knowledge you give us there. I would give $5 for that! You swapped the sensor to the other car, an it worked! How is a man ,in his driveway suppose to figure that out....
Sorry about the billfold..

Is this a bad time to mention that $5 Torque Pro can display & log temperatures (I normally have IAT and Coolant on display. Had a TPS go to zero when you hit the brakes and the engine stalled. Without instrumentation I never would have found it.
Besides TP is a great tool for checking out a used car.

A-HA!
John and Ella's SRT Roadster (the higher mileage one) is suffering the same thing. I found that Fuse 15 is not feeding the duovalve (it also feeds the "Rest" pump) and am going to run a new 12 volt battery feed this upcoming weekend. Apparenntly this is going to be another common issue with these cars as they age. One thing - I wonder if this will turn out to be an SRT only thing?
In any event, the OAT thing was something that I read about last year on the Benz forums, that is, that the OAT information is important to the ECU. Your post just confirms what I never really doubted anywa.
Thats what i was saying Bob. If it works in both cars , it would be confusing ,trying to diagnose why it didn't work in the original. Lot to be said about running a continuity test on your wires when things don't make sense. Glad your going again..
Also, I added a note to the card in the fusebox to indicate that "Fuse 15 has been moved to the battery junction box." Fixed in 20 minutes for $5.49 in parts.
That looks good. Adding the remarks on the fuse box card shows the pro touch. The car , no matter where it goes will easy to understand.. kudos...
Thanks.
Now I know of three cars, all SRTs, that have had this failure. Its starting to make me wonder if there is something about the SRT where this is going to be a 'thing'.
And like I said, John's car is driven year round and sits out in the carport, I do not suspect rodent damage.

After reading over this quite a few times now. Does anybody else think this thread should be added to A/C and Heater repair section in the XF repairs/ production numbers /manuals etc. page? I've referred many people to this thread in the past and twice just recently. I think its becoming more of a common issue than one would hope. I also am now thinking mine might be suffering from this as well. Mine being an SRT6 as well. Thank you in advance. Just would like an easier jumping off point for this problem and it'd be easier to find for people having A/C problems.
Bumping this old topic too... Making waves on the forums after some inactivity and neglect to fix my poor SRT6...
I'm on a roll (or war path maybe????) with my crossfire now... Supercharger not working all the time, and verbatim same issue described here in this thread both with heat just randomly blowing hot on just the passenger side and sporadic blower motor issues when changing blower speed settings (Say you change from 2 to 2.5 in the dial it blows at full throttle for a second then goes back down to 2.5.... I think I have a triple threat going on with my baby in the repair department lol.... I've stayed on top of it over the last 2 years but all of a sudden, all at once I find that I'm now battling three separate isolated issues... (89,000 miles BTW - Florida car)... My goodness gracious.... what a nightmare if I don't get ahead of my problems...
This is on top of the fact that I've also done the following since I bought this SRT only 2 years ago:
- Crank shaft sensor
- Cabin Filter
- Power steering Fluid
- Primary Water pump
- Power Seat Relay (Siemens)
- Driver side valve cover gasket
What was I thinking is just to sell it... Just kidding, I love this car and would never do such a thing, I'd prefer to complain about Mercedes and their insane engineering that run this car... *rolls eyes*
And she needs an oil change and new tires too.... Shut up and take my money lol.
Thanks!
