Default My crossfire roof is leaking

Hi folks!

I just noticed that my roof (Coupe) is leaking. Driver side above the headliner somewhere on the smaller triangle window. It's raining like crazy and I see water slowly dripping down
I have no way of getting it out of the rain today and so I hope it won't be too bad but what can be done about that? What place could help me fix this? I don't even know if a body shop would be able to assist me with that.
Or is there something I can do perhaps? But I'm sure no expert on leaks.
Any advise will be highly appreciated.
Thanks guys!

Nick

Wow, this is a new one.
Iv'e been on here nine years, can't remember this coming up.

Are you SURE it isn't the power window? I know there have been times when some of us had to do the adjustment because the window didn't go up far enough.

My guess is that the corrugated hose through which the wires to the rear light go is the cause. It can and has torn and allowed water to get onto the roof lining panel. Water could also get in around the base of the hose if it was damaged or loose.

In this picture the hatch end of the hose has been pulled out of the hole in which it normally seats. Do NOT remove the end from the body or hatch unless you have to as it is a beetch to get back into position unless you have learnt the trick after many frustrating attempts to get it back in place. As you can see one of the next jobs is replacing the headliner fabric, it has fallen even more now.

I do not know how to adjust the window. That could be the cause though as I have always heard a little bit of wind when driving on the highway on that side. The water is soaking my headliner and dripping onto the bulk head. That is the spot it seems to be coming in, right where the triangle window starts on the level of the bulk head.

I can also check that hose in the trunk once the rain clears. What am I looking for there? And how am I adjusting the window? I don't want my headliner to start coming down but I see a little wet spot that is extending itself now towards the front of the vehicle if it keeps leaking
Damn it! LOL

The description of where it is leaking seems a bit different in the two descriptions of where it is leaking. Now I am not so sure. A photo would help as the second description seems to make the leak farther forward.

Dave you are the man. It is definitely coming from underneath the plastic side panels and soaking my headliner I also noticed it on the passenger side but not as bad yet. Around the beige plastic panel the headliner has already slight discoloration from dirty entering with the water. What do I do? I don't know what exactly I am looking for or what to do. Any info would be appreciated. I have no way of getting the car out of the rain in the meantime. I'd assume it's been going on for a little while so a day or two long won't matter I guess. I will post pics once I get home.

The window can be adjusted as explained in the Service Manual. I also did a PDF on the window adjustment. CLICK

Here is a proceedure I have used many times over the years, most times successful.

Turn on heat or vent with fan on high.
Recirculate off.
Close all windows and doors.
Spray "foaming window cleaner" on outside of car at suspected areas.
Any air leakage will show up in the foam.

And while your cleaning the windows , check the oil...lol..James is right , positive pressure will show where its loose enough for water to run in...

Thanks for all the information. Here is the bizzare thing! The first two pictures are from the driver side...the last picture is from the passenger side. It felt dam in the same spot there but not visible wet as on the driver side (first two pics). There were also a few water drops on the passenger side plastic trim below the window as the picture shows. I'm a little lost for what is happening. I guess I could see the window being slightly off on the driver side but for that happen on both sides? Isn't that unusual? But then again it's also highly unusual to feel my headliner soaking lol.
I will have to try the foam cleaner idea later this week and hope it doesn't rain anymore in the meantime
Unless you guys think a repair shop can help me with window adjustments or whatever this is but since nobody really knows the car that's doubtful butaybe a Mercedes repair shop could help?

In each rear wheel well there is a valve that equalizes the air pressure inside to the air pressure outside of the car. Excess air pressure inside the car would open these sizeable vents.
These valves stop your ears from popping when a door is slammed.
