Default Tranny Troubles

Hello all new here.

Just bought my wife a 2005 Crossfire....82,000 miles

I have a few issues; I had codes P0700 & P0717.

I replaced the conductor plate and connector, fluid, and filter.

Now i have P0700 & P0715.

Car is in LIMP, and i noticed if i move it down to autostick, the dash still says "D" and i can not select any gears manually.

A friend thinks its bad or stuck solenoids in the valve body. I was thinking more TCM. What are your thoughts?

I might add this as well...i checked all wires from the 13 way connector back to the tcm..all continuity is good. When checking the circuits involving the N2 and N3 speed sensors, I find Ground good, 6v Reference voltage good...but here is what gets me..the wires going to N2 & N3 are showing 5.99v at the 13 way with key on. That doesn't seem right to me, and would lead me to believe i have a TCM issue.

Do not discount the shifter assembly itself, it too contains electronics.

I won't disagree there, but how would shifter affect it just in drive?

I have no answer for that.

If I recall didn’t someone spill a drink on his shifter and it caused the same problem?
Anyway I had ‘limp’ mode in a basically identical tranny and it was caused by a faulty solenoid. The car drives in second gear all the time this is to save further damage to the tranny and not leave you stranded.

I thought you might have an answer, and yes I do seem to recall the same thing.

Yes , but he knew that he had spilled something down that cavity. He bought a shifter assembly off Ebay an it cured his problem. That's why that cup holder is so odd. Any bump, an your drink is headed to a sensitive electronic component that can't take much abuse. .. yes , i still use it...

My 2005 is having the same problem. It only drives in a lower gear (I guess First but your limp mode description sounds more accurate) and it bangs into gear when I put it in drive. I’m suspecting an electrical problem but was hoping not to have to pay through my nose to take it to a dealer. But I’m having trouble finding anyone else willing to look at it. Any advice and guidance would be appreciated.

Find a local import specialist , that works on German imports or a shop that does MBs. It will be a lot less than ,"book time" at a dealer...

OK both 700 and 715 are generic codes.

"This is an informational DTC letting you know that a DTC(s) is stored in the Transmission Control Module.

Erase this DTC from the PCM after all Transmission DTC(s) have been repaired.

Using the DRB IIIT, read the Transmission Controller DTC and refer to the Transmission Category and perform the appropriate symptom."
- page 9-468, '04 SM

I have seen a number of these and it takes a Mercedes scan tool for an SLK320 to diagnose.

The least expensive I have found is an Autel DiagLink with the BENZ module.

But to scan properly you cannot use a generic OBD II scanner.

ps the control module for the shifter is under the console lid and is VERY susceptible to water (a convertible you can't get wet, only the Germans). If just water it may dry out. Until it does you need a circular device to get out of Park.

I am looking for a local import repair shop. So far, no luck. It’s a coupe that is stored inside so water in the shifter is not the issue and the shift lever functions as far as being able to move it from park to R, N or D. My friend owns a shop and ran a scan showing a few tranny electronic malfunction codes and referred me to a tranny shop that says they don’t do Mercedes work. Somebody earlier mentioned a “limp” mode and that seems the most logical explanation for why it won’t shift thus far. Sounds like I’ll have to take it to someone with the right diagnosis scanner. I was hoping there was an easy fix like the one I’ve seen where the computer module board needs resoldered.

I recently change out my TCM from a salvage yard for my transmission issues. I changed out the conductor plate, filter, electrical connection thinking that was the issue.........it was not. As soon as I put in a $40 TCM my transmission was running like a top. It could be the easiest fix in the scheme of things. IMHO

Have you reset (cleared codes from) the TCM with an OBDII reader. That's the only thing that worked for me!

I am curious what the outcome was for you. I too am having the same issues after replacing the same parts. I tried to erase the 7015 code with my generic scanner as well as took it to a tranny shop and had him attempt to erase the code however it still pops up.
