Default Transmission Problems?

I've noticed that lately I've been hearing a loud "clunk" coming from the transmission when I switch it from park to drive or even reverse to drive for that matter. On a second note it just doesn't seem to have the pick up it did when I pick it up 3 weeks ago. I understand that I've since got used to driving it but, when I nail it to the floor there is a slight delay than then it goes. I was thinking the injectors might be somewhat clogged but there's no way that could have happened in the three weeks I've had it.

Oh the other thing that happens when I nail it I notice an odd smell coming from some where. It's not quite burning oil, and I can't distinguish what exactly it is.

It's going in for a check up on Tuesday but, wanted to see if any of you guys had some insight as to what could be up with it and what I should tell the tech to check for me.

Thanks guys.

Clunk may be lash in the drive line. Do you habitually set the parking brake?
Is it a dull thunk or more metallic? Smell is it sweet? Have you noticed leaks?

Give us some more info.

Someone shoot me I should like click n clack!
Ah sorry about the lack of details. It's a 2005 Limited model. It currently has about 18,500 miles on.

Now to answer you questions. When ever I'm on any sort of incline I do set the parking brake. The clunk is more of a dull thunk. I don't think it's a sweet smell... it's almost a burning, not oil and doesn't smell like coolant really either. It's unlike and sort of automotive smell I have sniffed before haha. Nor can I pin point the smell, it's not the coming from the vents and I can't seem to find the source. And there hasn't been any leaks.

I don't know, what do you guys think?

I hear a dull thud on my SRT6 as well. I don't think you need to worry about it if it is dull.
Try resetting the throttle for the lag (perform a search). The throttle is adaptive. If it does not fix the lag in acceleration I would definitely take it to the dealership. I don't know what to say about the smell.

There's a good solution to the problem...buy a manual. I fear the cost of having this transmission being replaced, but at least with the clutch it won't be nearly as expensive. The "clunk" on my old Honda happened as well and it was only a matter of time before I had internal transmission failure (about another 14K miles).

Eh, I just got it. It's still under both factory and dealership warranty (been under 3,700 miles and 3 months). If the transmission fails it will be replaced for nothing. I know that the transmission is adaptive and I had the ECU reset last time I was at the shop so it should be tuned to my driving style; not only that but, in the 3 weeks (like anyone who gets a new car) I've been driving hard. With all that being said I don't think the acceleration should be laggy. I guess I'll have to see what the tech says.

Anyone else got any ideas of what it may be?

How do you go about doing that? It's something I can do myself?

Yes you can do it yourself. Perform a search on Throttle reset.

Well, MB does have a throttle lag that is very noticeable from a stop.
The thunk very well could be from the drive-line u-joints or splined yokes and the rear-end could have been set up incorrectly.
The smell I just don't know, I had a smell that was very faint and it turned out to be a valve cover seeping oil that had to be replaced.

I talked to the service rep not too long ago and he said the tech can't find anything wrong with the transmission. I have a feeling I'm going to get it back and it wont be any different than before...

Frustration to say the least.
