Default I need help with tuning SRT-6 in Center County PA

I just bought an almost brand new (2005) SRT-6 convertible with only 1500 miles on it. I want to tune the car with new High Performance air intakes, chip tuning etc. to bring the car well over 400 BHP (but still keep it completely 'driveable' for daily use. Regrettably I have 2 left hands and am a complete amateur (no technical skills at all) when it comes to this. Is there anyone who could do this for me (Zip 16801 PA) ? Of course we can agree on your compensation/reward for doing this. Looking forward to hearing from you. JCT

I and many others have found this to be a valuable tool in helping you learn and mod your srt6:

I bet it helps you too!

How do you like your car so far?

Welcome to the forum!! It's good to see another SRT in Pennsylvania. I'm clear over by Ohio (last exit on I-80 before Ohio). I'm no mechanic, but I'd be happy to help. I doubt you want to make the 3 hour drive though.

I see you're interested in about 400 hp. Did you mean 400 at the wheels or at the crank? You might not be aware, but typically car manufacturers state the crank hp, such as 425 hp for the Charger SRT-8. Well all that hp doesn't actually get to the wheels. About 18-20% of it is lost between the crank and the wheels. So wheel hp is typically 18-20% lower.

Also, Chrysler lied when they stated that our cars were 330 hp stock. They're actually 350. (some say 349, some say 354, whatever.) Now, it's a pretty easy jump from 350 to 400. A cold air intake and a pulley should put you right in the neighborhood of 400. Price depends on which CAI and pulley you choose, but guesstimate about $1,000 total if you're buying off-the-shelf products (rather than a do-it-yourself CAI).

Now if you're talking about 400 wheel hp, that's not so easy. Stock our cars have about 290 wheel hp. A CAI, pulley, intake manifolds, and ECU tune should put you near the fuel system's limits of around 380 wheel hp. But along with those performance mods, you'll need some cooling mods to keep that supercharger cool, so add an aftermarket heat exchanger and a better coolant pump to the list.

You can use these price as estimates for those items - note there are cheaper ways, but this is for off-the-shelf aftermarket products:
Cold Air Intake: about $450
Pulley: $650 (smallest) to $850 (largest)
ECU Tune: $500 to $800 (paying anything more than that is robbery)
Intake Manifolds: $1,500 for custom, $750 to mod existing
Heat exchanger: about $500
Johnson Pump: $120

So if you wanted to "super size" your deal, you'd be looking at about $4,220. Then you have the joy of paying someone to install them all.

You can see from my signature which way I decided to go. I would recommend that you start off with a cold air intake. That's good for about 25 whp. It's a nice start, and you may find that's all you wanted. After that, your next step should be a pulley. That should stack with your CAI and add an additional 25+ whp.

No matter how you decide to proceed, talk to some of the vendors:

Oh yeah, I almost forgot, another great mod is a SprintBooster. It doesn't add any power at all, but it remaps the throttle and improves throttle response. The biggest thing it does is that it seems to "wake" the car up. Personally, if I had no other mods, the SprintBooster would be it. I was very hesitant about spending $250 on an electronic gizmo that didn't add any power, but I'm very happy with the result. You can follow the SprintBooster link in my signature, or contact TVT Design. I believe he is a US reseller for SprintBoosters.

LASTLY:
DON"T FORGET TO CHECK THE FORUMS FOR GROUP BUYS! You can save a lot of money by going in on group buys.
