Light came on last night when I started the car. Checked this morning, reservoir was fine but I topped it off anyhow. Light is still on. Drove 23 miles to work, car is fine, temp gauge right where it's supposed to be. Is this just a sensor problem?

 

The cable/connector on mine (under the overflow tank) is stretched tight as a string. Is it making good contact? Is it seated well?

 

Just got the car back from the dealer. Had thrown code P0480, fan circuit failure. Tech replaced burned out wiring harness and 50 amp fuse. Car was still under warranty by 6 weeks and about 585 miles. Fixed for free.

 

Glad for you that it was covered.

Makes me wonder why they designed this fancy variable-speed cooling fan and circuit. Why not an on/off like everyone else?

 

Update: car was good for one whole day. Now the light blinks on and off every now and then so I'm figuring that the circuit is still bad or possibly shorting out. Already have an appointment for next Wednesday for yearly inspection so I'll have it checked out then. Why oh why can't these cars be fixed right the FIRST time ?

 

Car went back to the dealer this morning for same problem. Nearly overheated yesterday while I was driving to work. Service writer says they'll get it fixed right this time. I told him keep the car for a month if need be (they gave me a 2009 Subaru Outback with less than 1800 miles as my free loaner. Pretty nice car.).

 

Got the car back yesterday. So far it's ok. Here's what the tech wrote on the repair order...
Check coolant lamp on..found radiator fan module shorted internally and found fan motor burnt out. Replace fan module and program. Remove fan shroud assembly, remove fan blades and drill out old fan motor. Install new fan motor with wiring kit. Install blades. Reinstall fan shroud back into vehicle and test.
OK after repairs.
New parts added...module for fan assembly, fuse, fan relay. fan motor.

All done under warranty but I suspect this would have cost about $700 to fix if I had to pay for it. Dealer had the car for 6 days. I put 650 miles on the loaner they gave me.

 

This has happened to my '05 crossfire.

I bought the car used. At an oil change the mechanic told me to check with Chrysler about the recall, they say it has already been done.

This week the engine cooling light comes on and off. The coolant was topped off and it still comes on. However the fan does not come on and it nearly overheats. I did notice a not so nice smell in the car a couple of days ago but could not figure out where it was coming from.

I suspect that I have the same problem as AIG. Would it be possible to just replace the entire fan and motor? The unit would be about $200 unless I can find one salvage from a car which has been rear-ended.

If anyone has any suggestions, ideas I would be more than happy to hear about them.

Not to worry I fixed the problem.

I plugged the fan back in!

 

If only everything were so simple...

 

My coolant light started coming on and off recently and when i opened the hood i also noticed the fan was not running, unplugged and plugged the fan connector i will check the fuse and grounds on the fan module tomorrow.

 

Had the fan not going on problem. I swapped the fan mod from my STR to my daughter's and that was the problem. Dealer replaced under her chrysler extended warranty. My ext warranty is US Fidelity.

 

You'll also notice that the a/c compressor won't kick in either. I suspect that's because the car thinks the coolant is low or that it's going to overheat which it nearly did in my case as the temp gauge shot up from the middle into the red zone in about five minutes. Had to put the heater on during an 80 degree day to get it to come down into the high end of the normal range.

 

I am having the Same Problem DID you ever figure out exactley what was wrong. First, My A/C would not work when it was hot outside then the light came on check fluid level it was fine. Noticed that about a week ago the fan was making some crazy load noise when running. Checked all the fuses not there (only could find a 40 amp by battery? no 50). Ne ways could use some help.

 

Also have the same exact symptoms ie: coolant light on - fluid reservor is full
ac is intermittant cold / warm
seems light comes on when ac is engaged
One post did say light will come on when fan is supposed to kick in but does not.

I did have the fan recall done a while ago
I believe fan and module were replaced under recall.
fan module part number & cost ?
will jump out the fan - after reading archives, it seems it is evenly split between fan and module

 

Jumped out fan and it engaged
another xfire with a bad control module or not?
I swapped out module with another used one and fan worked and coolant light gone but next day symptoms appeared again

Could be used module bad or something else. Fan does work when jumped out still
