Default "ticking noise" from engine

I've noticed there is a tick-tick-tick (and does not stop) coming from the engine on the right hand side that starts after about 1 minute of the car being on. I do not have the AC on, and it's audible inside the car as well. Any thoughts?? Someone else please start their car and listen on the right side after about 1 minute to see if you hear a ticking noise...

I get the same thing. Sounds to me like lifters. I'm not too worried about it. The cars are designed to run on a very thin synthetic oil. When oil is cold, it is much thicker. Once the motor has reached normal operating temp, the oil will thin out.

If it gets any louder, take it in and get it checked out.

I was at the dealer here in MN and started up some Crossfires on the lot to listen to them. They all sounded just like mine -- not to quiet. I am used to a supercharger whine, so maybe I hear things that are normal, but at least the cars on the lot were the same.

Essentially, it appears to be a fair amount of lifter noise and accessory pulley noise.

I'm guessing you've checked oil level but often low oil level will result in loud lifters. My A4 was noticeably louder when she was down a quart.

Pete1365.... This engine has overhead cams. No lifters.

Default slight correction, rather clarification

the Xfire has a single ohc, not cams.

The engine has a single cam on each head!It has adjusters (or lifters)on the tip of all the rocker arms.

OHC = Over Head Cam
Single = One per head
This is a "V" 6 there's a head at the top of each side of the "V" :lol:
2 heads = 2 cam"s"

Kusheen..... ops: .......If you only have one cam you need to get your dealer to install the other one.... You'll be amazed at the power improvement.

Default point taken

Point taken, I'll get that other cam installed, but....

According to Crossfiretech, looks like yours may have come without it's lifters....getting those should help your autocrossing...

Still no lifters (adjusters are not lifters in the true sence of what a lifter is and how it functions).....Roller Rockers ride on the cam and actuate the valves. At least that's the way all single ohc engines that I'm familiar with operate. That goes back to my days of working with Offenhausers. I've been working on and building race engines since I was 16. I don't make statements if I don't know my facts.

A leaking or worn out hydraulic adjuster will give you the same ticking or tapping noise a lifter would give.Could be normal engine noise.I will try and listen for any noise from my engine.

I've listened to mine. Even used a 24in. screwdriver as a stethoscope and the valve train on mine sounds very smooth on both banks.

As a Crossfire Tech, I've got a noisy engine in my bay now. Due to the oil pump being chain driven, I believe it is responsible for my current noise.

As for "Lifters" and "adjusters", simply, the Crossfire 3.2 has hydraulic (engine oil pressureized) tensioners for all the chains slinging around, and the valvetrain lash adjusters are hydraulic, as well.

Due to the valvetrain actuating 3 valves instead of 2 or 4, there are a few sounds not cancelled out by other parts, thus we hear them more pronounced.
