POWERCHIP GOLD 91 USER
Had the POWERCHIPGOLD 91 upgrade to my CROSSFIRE, and so far I am quite pleased with the results. Definitely noticed the increase in horsepower ( 15-17HP increase ) when I need to move around traffic on the freeways, but, more importantly, the car has increased miles to the gallon. Before I had the modification, I was averaging around 26-28 miles per gallon ( 28 miles per gallon only twice ) on 85% freeway/15% street driving. I got the upgrade last week and on the same ratio of driving, I got 29 1/2 miles to the gallon. Mind you, I jumped on the car a lot more than usual, so I burned more gas than usual, just to feel the acceleration and exhiliration. This week I will take it slow ( 65mph ) and not "jump" on the accelerator. I will post mileage results next week. I am expecting 30 miles per gallon!! Oh yeah and by the way, my XFIRE is a 6-speed manual, graphite gray, sweet drivin' machine, that still turns heads. I am not into racing, but somewhere in this forum there's a guy who posted speed results on his upgrade. AS for me, give me mileage, or give me...
The last 2 fill-ups were 28 and 29 MPG on the ratio of 85% freeway and 15% street. The magic 30mpg has not been attained as of yet, and I am wondering if a cruise to Vegas or Laughlin could get me that 30mpg since that would be pretty much 98% freeway driving. When I take that cruise, I will let you all know.
Overall, I am quite happy with the torque and HP increase. On the freeways, my XFIRE gets me around the clogs of cars with the greatest of ease. Accelerating onto the freeway is the same. Is the upgrade worth the $600, for me, yeah. In the long run, each one must make that decision according to their own wallet. One last thing, when I took my X-FIRE for my first oil change ( 5K ), the mechanic that drove my car ( and this is just on the lot ) exclaimed that my X-FIRE felt more power than the other XFIRE he had driven when he accelerated. Not knowing DAIMLER's stand on this upgrade, I told him there was no need for flattery since I would be bringing my XFIRE for servicing at this dealership since that was where I purchased it. He insisted he was not blowing smoke and felt my XFIRE had more pep than other XFIRES he has driven. I said "KOOL".
Still turning heads...

Is there any effect on the warranty by getting this upgrade? Did you make the upgrade yourself, or take it to a shop? I love my new XFire, but I think it is a bit underpowered and am interested in increasing it.
THanks.

Lovin' my CROSSFIRE...
Great information. Thank you for the detail.
I had no idea it was just a software upgrade. If it's that simple to increase the horsepower I wonder why Chrysler didn't just make it that way.
Thanks again.

KRUISIN IN MY XFIRE...
You're right. That actually makes sense. I was just assuming I should only use 91 octane or better. From what you are saying it seems I could save gas money on lower octane until I make the switch.
I appreciate the feedback.

Not exactly so...pages 149 and 222 of owner's manual specifies 91 Octane, and the label by the fuel filler says use Premium fuel only, which generally means 91 or over.
87 and 89 octane is widely available, and while I know sometimes manufacturers overstate the octane needs for a car, I'm going to pretty much stick with the manufacturers recommendations on fuel.

CROSSFIRING DOWN THE LONG LONESOME HIGWAY...
I use 93 octane and at the same time put an octane booster from time to time. Its just my own preference since my Crossfire is just a recreational vehicle for day offs and weekend use.

See the atachment.
However, there are other companies that do ECU tunings at a lot less money.
