Anyone have problem with Costco gas?
Being kinda cheap by nature I was using Costco gas. Premium in Xfire and regular in 08 Nitro and 97 Wrangler. Within one week we experienced fuel sytem problems on all three cars. Xfire had both oxygen sensors fail and check engine light came on. Nitro also had a warning light come on and dealer said problem with number 5 injector and my Jeep started cranking a long time to start which is always a problem with fuel check valve. I fixed the Jeep by running a tank of shell premium along with a can of Seafoam in the tank which fixed it.
We have quit buying gas at Costco. I am just wondering if anyone else on the Forum has had similar problems with Costco gas.

I have had good luck here in Colorado with Costco. Unfortunately, they do put in ethanol here. Other than the reduced mileage, no problems. Perhaps you just got a bad batch of gas. It happens.
Costco gas/cheap gas = low bid gas
After having a very bad and expensive experience with a low cost gas station many years ago, I'll never buy gas anywhere but a name brand gas station again. Roll the dice if you want, but not me.
Also, check your MPG with low cost gas vs. name brand. Most will see a better MPG with name brand.

I don't use Costco, but it may be their tanks are bad, not so much the gas. This can happen with any gas provider. It happened to me a long time ago with Shell.
I think the gas comes from the same refinery's, it just rolls out in no name tankers, same gas. I do not know of any no name refinery's, do you?
Maintenance is a big part of the problem -- they ususally don't take care of the tanks, etc. and you get crap, water, etc.
And as a by-product of their volume, they sometimes run the tank down very low, so again you pick up the dirt etc.
We've had some cars with clogged or overheated cat's due to some of the impurities...........

If I remember correctly, some of the auto mfg actually recommend only 3 brands, Mobi/Exxon, Shell and Chevron/Texaco. It has to do with additives, detergents and other secret ingredients. Could be just a bunch of hype, but I stick with those. Never had a fuel problem over the years.
I look it as the same thing with Mobil 1 synthetic oil. Most of us follow that recommendation as well.

Do you have ethanol added to your gas in Toledo? Because the water-ethanol mix is at the bottom of the tank, the fuel pump may pick up a slug of this mixture, and the engine will run very poorly or perhaps die. Or, they could have exceeded the ethanol content posted on the pump. That is becoming a more common problem these days as it's used as an additive to reduce the price of the gas.

I think the best explanation is that any sediment in the tank is stirred up when the tank is refilled by a tanker and the pick up pipe picks up the debris that is floating around.
The same philosophy would apply to debris in the cars tank.
I avoid buying gas at old gas stations which may have old and possibly leaky tanks. A gas tank that leaks and sits below the water table can let water in rather than gas out.
In years past abandoned gas stations were a major source of benzene pollution, hopefully they have been cleaned up but I doubt it.
heres what you do.
talk to the manager at the costco where you filled up, explain what happened. he should ask for a sample of the gas. They will test it and see whats wrong. Then they normally pay your bills

it was req. by law more than a few yrs ago that all gas stations remove the metal tanks and replace them with the commercial plastic tanks to combat leaks and contamination of the local watertables. this had to be done nationwide

I dont know if this is problem with gas from Costco. Lately i was filling my tank in all of my cars at Costco gas station and recently around december engine light came on in one of my cars. Normal driving and suddenly its like iam losing power. Car RPM goes up and down around 1000 RPM while on iddle. Dont have any clues what is going on. Suddenly in my other car malfunction light came on too. Is this Costco gas problem quality or whatever?
Thanks
Thanks
