Default '07 interior in an '04 issue. Need help

So I switched out the interior of an 07 into my 04 na and had an issue under the steering wheel. There is a cylinder that has a small connector going to it. The housing that this cylinder is in is different than my 04 and I cannot close the lower flap. I had to remove the knee pad and this piece. If I want to reinstall it I need to make modifications to the area under the steering wheel to make it fit (unfortunately I dont appear to have alot of modifying options). What is this piece, and has anyone ran into this before?

There is wording on this piece but is in German. I am guessing it is a safety feature of some sort, it appears to be a gas cylinder of some kind. Hopefully its not related to the airbag, but for some reason (and my bad luck) I think it is. Help?

Looks like knee airbag.
Standard on '07s - not on '04s

That's my guess, related to knee air bag.

In cars now days, the air bag system has yellow connecters and yellow labels, and yes its an air bag you can see the bag material and the gas cylinder to fill the bag with air.

It is an airbag.. But those connectors are not limited to yellow. Airbag connections for a 2-stage airbag are bright green (stage 1) and purple (stage 2), Yellow and orange are general airbag connectors (ancillary airbags and connectors to the SRS module). Those are the 4 standard colors for SRS systems n matter the car.

Curious...

Why would you change out the interior from an 07 to an 04?? Different color, yours torn up, wanted a change?

Sorry to be nosey

I'm guessing he hates that over-sized knee bolster that the 04-06's came with as much as I do. Thought about doing the same but could never find one of those that wasn't outrageously priced.
