Well that "somehow" fairly jumps out from your earlier (4/12) post:

Computers can retain electric charges even when disconnected; lotsa folks don't do it now but back in the days when everyone did mods on their PCs, one would wear a static discharge band to keep from frying either oneself or one's motherboard. Car batteries too can spark whether the car is on or off; it has nothing to do with the car being on, if the battery has juice (and it has to for the car to start), there is potential for an arc from terminal to terminal or from terminal to ground. Depending where it grounded, seems pretty likely the voltage from an Xfire battery spark could zap an onboard computer or de-program a chip with programmable memory.

I've been building PC's since 6th grade with my father... and I still have one of those old school bands I never really thought of it that way ... not a huge car guy so relating this to a PC always gets my attention!

Still pisses me off this happened... Otherwise I would be running with the ECU chip and having a lot more HP and torque ...

When Sonny did my car he was wearing a static dand and had an anti static work station (grounded pad) He also taped all around the area of chip on the ciruit card so he wouldn't inadvertantly short anything. He was very thorough.

You could have a battery arc just jump-starting your car after leaving the AVIC running watching a DVD movie without the car running. :P :P :P The risk of a battery arc is going to be inherent in any electric mod you do on your car, IMHO the Upsolute upgrade is worth the risk... just make sure that EVERY electric load is TURNED OFF before the battery cable is disconnected or reconnected. I dunno, there's probably a fuse for the "computer", have your guy pull that fuse before he touches your battery :?: :?: :?:

I'm not going to have it done by this guy in Michigan... he was a very friendly guy and took great care in putting the chip on... but he used no anti-static equipment... I would rather just have it done in SC from Wes' guy if im in the area this summer... might be a decent road trip !

I assume this all got fixed in the end. What was the final problem and solution?

Boba seems pleased. He's posted several times since driving to NC and have Rene do his chip upgrade. Look in the Tail of the Dragon thread...

Sure am! Thank you dave for reminding me to re-post here stating how Rene helped me a ton! For all the trouble he hooked me up with a free ECU upgrade and I'm more then pleased at the results of the Xfire with the chip in!

I haven't read the rest of these posts, but when something of mine breaks (my computer) I usually just give a swift kick in the butt and it works right away

Try that
