Default Oil level sensor revisited

Ok, so a few months after I purchased my Crossfire, I had the low oil level light come on. I shut her off and check the oil level. It's right on the mark. Sit on the roadside another 10 minutes and pull the dipstick again..Right on the mark. I check the dash for signs of any other oil related warning lamps. Find none. I go through the manual and find that if you use the FSS to check oil level and get no reading AND the lamp is lit, Then it means the sensor has failed. Ok, no problem. I look into it here on the forums when I get home and it seems pretty much spot on that the sensor has failed. I can't get an oil level reading on the FSS to save my life and I know it worked when I bought the car. So, I figured I'd just live with the light until warmer weather comes back and then get in there and change it out.

18,000 miles later...Give or take a 1000,(my work commute is 140 miles..daily)

What worries me now is, I keep reading posts with people stating the lamp will also illuminate with low oil pressure. Does anyone have any documentation to back this up? I've read through everything I can find on these cars and no where can I find anything that ties the low oil level lamp to low oil pressure.
I checked with the dealer out here and was told the sensor sends oil level and in some cases, oil temperature to the pcm. He said the check engine lamp would come on if oil psi was below a predetermined number set in the pcm. He also stated in the event of no oil pressure, The engine would crank, but would not start unless the pressure builds above a set point telling the pcm everything is ok. I explained my oil level indicator issue to him and he agreed it was a bad oil level sensor.
To put my fears to rest, I want to test the oil pressure myself and see. But I haven't the foggiest idea where would be the best place to tap into the oil system and get an accurate reading from the topside of the motor. I know I could most likely just tee into the stock oil psi sensor fitting, but it's freezing out there and if I lie on the ground for more than a minute, I might not get back up!

Hows this. Shop manual, section 9 page 662.

DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING - CHECKING ENGINE OIL PRESSURE

1. Remove the oil pressure testing plug (1) at the base of the
oil filter housing.
2. Install oil pressure test gauge assembly.
3. Start the engine and monitor the gauge readings.

CAUTION: If oil pressure is 0 at idle, Do Not Run engine at

3000 RPM

4. Oil pressure (engine at operating temperature):
Curb Idle

34.5 kPa (5 psi) minimum
3000 RPM 300–724 kPa
(45–105 psi).
5. If the oil pressure is 0 psi at idle, shut the off engine and
check the pressure relief valve; it may be stuck open or
have a clogged oil pickup screen.
6. Install the oil pressure test plug and tighten to 10 N·m (89

in. lbs.) after testing is completed.

Thank you! I can't believe I glanced right past that. In My quest to find out more info about the oil level sensor itself, Guess I got tunnel vision there.
