Mercedes Guy Here, Need some Transmission Advice :)
Hey guys,
I actually do not have a chrysler Crossfire, nor do I intend on getting one. However, I know that the crossfire platform is based off of the SLK chassis and uses the same style drivetrain/engine.
I have a 1997 C36 AMG, these cars have a very common transmission problem, currently mine is having more errors and I am in need of a new one. THe cost of a rebuilt one installed is about 1200, not to mention itll just break again...
My solution to this, was to convert my car to manual (although the costs may be higher now, it'll pay off in the long run, especially a 6spd vs. my 5spd.)
I know that mercedes manuals can be hard to come by, however I have been able to find alot of different crossfire transmissions, and I plan on trying to go through chrysler parts in order to convert my car.
I would like some insight on what you guys think is the best transmission, and what I should be aware of/ need to look out for.
I believe the 05-07 Transmissions are the best from what I have read.
THis is where I have been looking, "http://www.autopartsfair.com/chrysler-used_transmissions/crossfire-2004-used_transmissions.html?campaign=theautochannel"
However IDEALLY, i would find a crashed Crossfire, and buy everything (from the slave and master cylinders, to the pedal assembly.
Here is the parts list so far,
- transmission (6 speed from crossfire 05-07)
- single mass flywheel(flywheel needs to be 60-2 tooth)
- front part of the drive shaft
- pedal assembly with clutch pedal and cylinder
- clutch disc and pressure plate, used but good as part reference
- shifter, shifter linkages, interior trim, nuts n'bolts, etc
Any advice or insight you guys have would be amazing. THANKS
PS) in case anyone is wondering, the ECU side of the project will be done by retuning the ECU only.
I will trick the Computer into thinking it is in neutral (and then changing the rev limiter setting for neutral)
Here's my car just for looks.

call Rudy 952 681 1000 if anyone can make this happen he can,, your biggest problem is going to get the ecu to understand that you no longer have the auto tranny and as far as i know Rudy ia the only guy that knows how to do that. he install a 5.5 supercharged AMG engine and tranny into my srt 6 jim
I think the brake master cylinder reservoirs are different, but you may be able to adapt the AT one to work with the manual (in pictures it looks like the nipple is there, but excess material needs to be trimmed from it in order for it to work). The feed for the clutch master comes from the brake master's resovoir.
Thanks for the compliments, also WOW you put the 5.5 in your car? thats awesome man.
Did u keep the 6 speed, or are you now with the mercedes auto?
I'll definately give him a call today. THe fact that the Cylinder uses the same as the brakes worries me a little bit, but it might take just some simple re fabrication.
Thanks for all the quick replies guys.
Also, if you dont mind me asking.... about how much did it cost you to do that E55 swap?

Wow those threads are awesome guys, great stuff.
Right now I'm just looking for a transmission swap, Rudy dou have any insight as to how the ECU can be tweaked to working with the manual? This transmission has the TSM built into it, so i need to trick it somehow.

if you want use the transmission from Crossfire so isn´t a big deal. That what you need is an Mercedes DAS in development mode, switch your gearbox pcm in your C36 from manual to AT or otherwise and that´s it,
regards V8Max

Also, can the DAS allow me to retune it and trick the car into thinking that it is in NEUTRAL?
( User Guide for Mercedes DAS Developer Mode Bluelans)

Also, I NEED a list of all the components of the manual system needed. I don't know where i could find an entire list of part numbers.

I sent you a PM, as far as parts it might be easier to buy a wrecked Crossfire or 6spd SLK? and take everything off you will need.
I really just need to find someone that has a crashed one, and then give them a parts list. (which i need to make, anyone know where i can find a parts list or something similar to that?)
Or where I can find a totaled crossfire and/or slk320
