This is a question more of curiousity than anything....

Most of the cars now days the ecm can be flashed to reprogram the AFR or the shift points, cooling fans, timing etc.

Is there a reason the complete chip has to be removed vice just flashing the eeprom? Or is it nothing has been developed yet to do so?

Thanks!

Searching helps sometimes.

Go here: https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...pic.php?t=2159

and look down for the entry that starts: Upsolute Today: Part 2

Sea,

I did search and read the very same link
thus the reason for my question...

Everything have seen suggests that the ECU has to be pulled and the Eeprom removed...

The other two cars I have can be programmed through the ODBII connector, this i think is tremendously easier than soldering and desoldering chips...

aside from the programming "modification" I have the wherewithall to do the same thing myself I have the prom burners and such

So based on your answer, there is no alternatives aside from soldering and desoldering the chip...

The prom does have to be removed and reprogrammed. None of the performance chip companies are offering any chip tuning via the ODBII port.

Or haven't yet figured out how to do it on a Crossfire. Maybe it's just not possible the way M/B designed the thing? As far as I've seen, it's not possible on any similar Benz, so....

And if the circuit board wasn't designed to allow in-place flashing, the only way to properly isolate the chip for reprogramming is to remove it.
