Auto transmission stuck in 4th. Until a re-start
Interesting problem:
Pulled out of a driveway over a diagonal hump, spun the inside tire and the trans. shifted immediately into 4th-and stayed there. Could not change it with the slapstick, nor would it shift down at a stop. Quite embarrassing pulling away from a stop at 1/2 throttle and accelerating like a burro. Made it home (5 miles) at no more than 45 MPH/2200 RPM. I had to shut her down and re-start to make it work. Drives fine now.
It has smelled warm driving for a while, but could be my imagination. Still under MaxCare.
Should I chance having the apes look at it?

limp mode wouldn't be 4th Max. May be the start of the dreaded tranny plate problem... Might take a look at that thread...seems to be a problem with some..
Well, third time is the charm. The last 2 times in 2nd. I have a Chrysler case number and they are trying to find a dealer to work on it. My regular 2 won't.
And it will have to be towed-I'd really rather not find it stuck in some gear on the interstate.
So, they can:
1) find a dealer to fix it and pay (MaCare) for whatever towing is involved.
2) if they can;t fix it, buy it from me, or
3) ???
What are MY options?

The dealer rebuilt the solenoid, I'm sure if I had to pay they would have made me buy a new electrical plate.

It is the NAG1 tranny, the Chrysler dealers have seen many. It is fitted to many Chrysler models. Mercedes designed it.
PS
I had the problem at start up and decided to crawl toward the stealership, 2nd gear and limited revs. It took me four times as long to get there it seemed, 25 miles. It took ages.

Gramps, thanks for that! I'll print this and hand it over to them. I hope the one I get can read...
