Help with Misfire issues
All,
I have multiple misfire issues for all cylinders.
Engine runs great get over 3k RPM and boom misfires like crazy. Shut it off turn it on, she is fine until you go over 3k RPM.
Seems like: (Bulletin 1803004) - TBS: 5-Jul-04 - 18-030-04 - Engine Control - MIL ON, Multiple Misfire DTCs
I have replaced all plugs / wires and fuel filter. Does anyone have details on the TSB?
Any help would be very appreciated.
Thank you,
Jared

I don't suspect all the coil packs decided to retire together .....
I guess I am looking at Cam Position sensor or the ECM?
Anyone else want to chime in ?
Just wondering if you've had a fuel pressure test done, noticed you did change filter.. I don't know if it would throw a code or not with a low pressure situation.
Thought the 3000 rpm rang a bell..
It's a dead end thread, but might be worth a read.

Off the top of my head that sounds right.. there is a thread within the last few months that was posted with it.. and it's in the manual..
And another quick thought.. off the shelf "be clean" fuel filter or one recommended on the board.. oem replacement.. there have been issues with other brands.

So little update:
I took the car out of storage to troubleshoot and it had even more issues.
* Spoiler stuck up with light flashing
* One fog-light stuck on
* Every brake related light in dash is on
* Speedo not working
I decided to bring it to a dealer for diag and they say all signs of the above point to the ABS Module. Then then told me the price ~$1100 and that I couldn't get a used one because the VIN is burned into it. They also told me the couldn't troubleshoot the misfire issue because of these other problems.
My first question is: Can this module be replaced with a used one or are they telling the truth and not trying to take my money.
Second question: could this module cause the misfire issue?
Thanks,
J

" all signs of the above point to the ABS Module" hum?
Dealers seem to start with the most profitable. I start with the cheapest or easiest. Even it does not fix the expensive, it builds my confidence.
Codes?
Battery. battery terminal. ground connection.
One fog light stuck on. Does the other light. Check all lights.
I would expect speedo problme to mess with ABS but would be surprised to learn that the ABS kills the speedo but I am still in the learning mode.
"could this module cause the misfire issue" Exceeds my wildest imagination.
Please keep us posted.
Here is a sample of why I learned to "love" dealers: Friend with Volvo goes to dealer with ABS light on intermittently. Dealer charged $1400 to replace ABS module. On the way home light comes on again. Returns to dealer. Dealer reports loose connection. Which came first? Bad ABS or loose connection?

Thanks for the reply.
It only had the misfire codes when I scanned the other day. On the way to the dealership everything started working for about 1-2 miles but then stopped again indicating the issue might be intermittent.
I have no issues replacing the module I just want to do it the least expensive way possible (used parts) but they are telling me that isn't an option.
I don't have the car handy, it still at the dealership so unfortunately I can't do any additional troubleshooting on my own.

Sure sounds battery related. As far as CPS....hopefully you used a bosch and not an off brand...been known to fail immediately. But voltage/amps play a bit part in all of the sensors, so make sure the battery and all connections are up to date...
I am going to pick the car up on Wednesday and troubleshoot it myself for battery related issue.
If I can fix those items maybe I will have them look at the misfire condition again. I would think the dealership would know to look for something battery related.
Thanks again for all the replies.

Check battery condition....then do a test of the alternator for proper voltage and voltage recovery after a demand such as AC, window switch ect. If that all checks out then you need to do a voltage drop test on the motor side to see if the engine is grabbing a good solid ground. If all is good there the next check would be the k40 relay pack that houses the fuel pump relay and engine mgmt relay. All these items would contribute to wacky electrical issues with this car and cost almost nothing to fix. If you ruled theses issues out check the ground points on the car. If there is a bad ground electricity will find another path and can trigger some oddball conditions
I got to pick the car up tonight, no ABS lights or anything spoiler functions as expected and dash is back to normal. (its like they are playing a sick expensive game with me)
List of issues still occurring:
Multiple Cylinder misfire
Dome light doesn't work (haven't looked at bulbs yet)
1 fog light stays on all the time
Radio has sound come out but buttons don't work (except power) and there is no display.
I guess I will call them tomorrow and see if anything changed but I feel like they did nothing and just charged me ~$300 for 3ish hours of BS.
