Module is digital pulse modulated. Get another or swap with a bud. Woody enjoy.

Man I wish you were my dad, my first car was a Mazda Protege with no bumper, a cracked windshield and a slipping clutch.

I bought a spare a while ago, have u tried ebay.

If i needed to drive the car, i wouldjumper the fan to 12 volts wiwth a dropping resistor, big one like a couple of paralleled headlights or a big **** resistor, say 1 ohm at 100 watts. Could make resistor out of wire as long as it did not melt items nearby.ww your on the moon and cant come home till u fix it. Watta you gonna do?

Is the radiator-looking light on in the left side of the dash?

Oh, the check engine light - we need to know what code it is seeing! If the radiator-looking light is not on, that means the fan module is working!

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.. gotta find out what code has the CEL on!

This is making no sense. If the fuse for the fan (Fuse 2 in the engine fuse block, the little box next to the battery) was blown, the Fan Control Module would be DEAD and the PTCM would light the radiator light on the left side of the dash due to no communication between the PTCM and FCM.

You have proven the fan motor WILL run if power is supplied to it.

We are left with the possibility that the PTCM is not commanding the fan to turn on -but the PTCM ALWAYS runs the fan at slow speed WHENEVER the A/C is turned on!

I sure would like to know what code is lighting that light.

Ok, I just went out to my car to prove something, and I was right. IF the 50 amp fuse for the Fan Module is blown, the radiator light WILL come on. Since yours is not on, we must assume the fuse is ok.

And a new FCM didn't work either.

This leaves two possibilities:

1) The fan motor is bad. (But you said it worked when jumped to 12 volts, so...)
2) The PTCM is, for some reason, not commanding the fan to run.

Try this: Turn the A/C on, the button will have a red led come on, verifying the A/C is on. This makes the fan run at slow speed - does yours THEN run?

If so, we have a problem with the PTCM not realizing the engine is getting to warm.
If the fan does NOT run slow, either the PTCM is, again, at fault OR we are back to a bad fan motor.

The circuit is really simple - this should not be this hard! What are we missing here?

The only other thing I can come up with is bad wiring/connection from the fan module to the fan motor....? But that is just some wires - and it sounds like you would have noticed that by now - it wouild be VISUALLY obvious, I would think.

This should NOT be this hard....... C'mon - anyone else following this thread - what am I missing here? I just PROVED that if the 50A fuse goes, the light comes on - his is not on!

How does the PTCM know the engine is getting too hot ?
I would think that would be from the engine temperature sensor.
My UltraGuage displays this, it is 185 when cruising without A/C, 195 cruising with A/C on, and I have seen 210 in traffic.
My fan goes high speed at around 205.
