Possible SKREEM module... cont. from another thread
Well.....old one is out.
I didn't take any pics. As 180 stated the manual walks you pretty much through it. When I'm going back together I will take a couple pics for clarification. The one thing I did manage to do different was as someone else had mentioned and that was not to remove the steering wheel.I couldn't really see where it was going to help and I could see it was going to be a PIA.The manual also doesn't mention that the screws holding your airbag in are Torx,T27 I believe.Oh yea.....they're tighter than chit. Pretty sure everyone knows what this is?

They require the use of a T30 bit.
Others have used T27 and even T25 and they ended up stripping the socket.
Just because it fits does not mean it is the correct size.
If they did, what are you going to see? lol. This is SMT stuff.
These units were made during a time period when bad capacitors were being shipped with tons of electronic gear. I'm curious to see if the big capacitor is leaking.
I'm thinking it's a cold solder joint on a prom leg somewhere or something similar for bad wave soldering. Just like the RCM.
I went out to start my 2007 Roadster on Tuesday of this week, 13K miles and experienced the same problem as before in November 2013: lights, horn, everything working but when turn key no sound (almost like key not being recognized. I had the dealer replace the door lock module in November 2013 -- could the module go bad in this short time frame (don't drive car very often mayble once a week). I did notice a whinning sound (skretching coming from behind the vents over the radio) when I turned the key to ON position. Never heard the whinning sound when I originally bought the car. Not sure what part would be located in this area. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. History below.

Update2/20/14: The Part #5099541AA was installed and seems to have solved my problem. I was wondering if Chrysler dealer is writing the wrong part # on the invoice. I would be interested in the outcome and what is the correct Chrysler part #.

Update 11/21/13. Picked up my car yesterday from dealership, slip states that no start was caused by internal SKREEM error, Part #5099541AA door lock module, which was covered under warranty. However can't believe that dealership quoted me $750-$800 to fix w/o warranty. I had to argue w/them to have part covered. Noticed that TPMS light came on while driving it home, but suspect that is due to cold weather and tires probably need more air. Just wanted to update everyone in case you have similiar problems with car not starting (no crank). Thanks everyone for all your help.

I too had the skreem module fail in my 2007 base coupe. Had it towed to dealer, they quoted less than your quote but then the warranty I purchased did cover the repair except for the $100 per repair. I did some research and was told that the original Skreem had to be returned to Chrysler in order for a new skreem to be returned and programed. I found one dealer parts dept. who had a skreem on his shelf, never picked up from whomever ordered it when they told me that they are specific to each CF, programming required. Otherwise he would have been glad to sell it. It's unnerving to read about this skreem module that seems to fail often. When it does, you are stuck wherever you are. For the 1.5 years + I have owned my CF, I've now had 3 warranty repairs and just replaced the (original) battery. I'm not feeling real confident with the reliability of the CF. Though, it is a fun car to drive.
For members who replaced Skreem, did you have to replace PCM powertrain control module at the same time?
Dealer is telling me that they *MUST* replace PCM ($2800) when replacing the Skreem ($300).
This doesn't match what I have read.

No no no no no no no. NOOOOO... If they really believe that, then It might be time to find the next dealership. Both times my Skreem went out, the PCM was never even mentioned.
There are companies that reprogram the SKREEM modules. The actual module can be purchased used on eBay for less than $50 but it will need to be programed to suit your ECU.
The part is called the door lock module or the SKREEM module and is Chrysler part number 5099541AA or Mercedes part number 170 820 18 226, Siemens part number 5WK4 8698.

Regarding replacement of the Skreem module (my experience): If you are at a Chrysler dealer, be aware that you should investigate if the repair dept has a qualified Crossfire tech. Meaning that when the Crossfires were introduced (this info is from Rudy Compart so I can not take credit for the history lesson), that (many) technicians from Chrysler were trained to work on the Crossfire engine (a Mercedes engine). Fast forward to current day and these techs are hard to find. I have 2 dealers in my immediate area, one has one of those Crossfire trained techs, the other does not. If the dealer is telling you that another part needs to be replaced, there should be (I would assume) a trouble code for that part when diagnosing the engine problem. Also, their repair guideline should also define what needs to be repaired. (Mercedes uses these guides) In my case, it WAS the Skreem, it WAS identified and it was the ONLY part replaced. But take note, a simple valve cover replacement created a huge debate regarding the one time use bolts that secure the covers. It took NUMEROUS phone calls and debates to get the dealer to order NEW bolts when they told me the bolts could be reused. I have called Mercedes a few times and if the parts guy is in a good mood, they can give you info from the SLK in which IS the engine in the Crossfire. You can use Mercedes service as a back up. I have and continue to do so. Worst case in your case, have your CF towed to another dealer. Also, the Skreem is a part (as I was told), that was required to be returned (to Chrysler) in order for a replacement Skreem (from Chrysler) to be shipped. I am not aware if the Skreem from my CF was actually repaired/reprogrammed. I doubt it. The turn around time was too quick. I can't imagine Chrysler is that efficient. The repair was completed in a week. Good luck to you I hope this experience helps.
My current experience with SKREEM problems. I have a 2007 Chrysler crossfire roadster with 14K miles. The SKREEM was replaced last November 2014, they put new module in and re-programmed the keys for me. Worked for a little over a year, car is again at the Chrysler Dealer in MA, SKREEM problem again, car has all lights on instrument cluster, key fob works but no START. However when they put the new SKREEM in yesterday they were unable to re-program the 2 keys. SKREEM seems to be a nightmare. IS the PCM something covered under warranty.

What a cluster&*#@. The Chrysler dealer has to return your vehicle to you with 2 working key fobs. I'm sure they would know how to reset key fobs and if they are unable, suggest (tell them), to order 2 new key fobs and have them programmed properly. I do not have the expertise to know if the SKREEM module is the cause or if another related problem may exist. You should send Rudy Compart a message through the forum and see if he has any direction. Additionally, there are many on the forum with a much greater pay scale than I regarding knowledge of the CF intricacies. For the 1.5 years I have had my CF, I'm not impressed with the CF mechanically but some of the forum members are very impressive with data. Let's see how the remainder of my extended warranty plays out. Who knows, I may have a CF for sale in 3.5 years. I would be upset laying out repairs for a car with such low mileage.

Other reasons for the SKREEM not to work is when the halo around the ignition switch is not plugged into the SKREEM or it has come loose or broken somehow. If the halo is faulty it cannot read the chip in the fob.
Update: 2/25/15
Well car has been at the Chrysler dealership since January 16, 2015. They replaced the SKREEM, PCM, and checked Relay Control and it was OK however still encountering problems--seems when they shut down the car, all lights remain on (fuel, temperature, etc). I have been reluctant to move it to another dealership since my extended warranty expires in 7 weeks and only valid w/Chrysler dealership. My first SKREEM module was replaced last November 2014, this is my second problem with SKREEM module/alarm system. I love the car, but under the circumstances (14K miles) it might be wise to trade car in. The service manager told me they been working with Chrysler tech for guidance however that doesn't seem to be helping. Any ideas what would cause the dash lights to remain on, when the car is completely shut off? Service manager did mention maybe the new PCM was corrupted, but I find that hard to believe. Kind of in limbo and not sure how to proceed -- sounds like some of the parts replaced are very expensive (PCM).

Update: 1/29/15 -- Just wanted to give everyone an update on my car and no START. It has been at dealership for 2 weeks, replaced SKREEM, then replaced PCM however still no start. They are now trying to get guidance from Chrysler. Just to add to the aggravation, my second crossfire (coupe) developed a problem as well. Will keep you posted.

3/4/15
Car was towed to dealership again on 1/10/2015. Same symptoms as in November 2014, 2007 Crossfire Roadster, 14K, (SKREM replaced 11/14). Now car has been at dealership for about 8 weeks, since then tried replacing new SKREEM, and that one burned out, replaced PCM and still haven't resolved the problem. They did point out that they finally got car to recognize the key, but when car is shut down --all electrical lights are flashing on instrument panel and will not go out. They also checked the RCM and said that was OK. Service manager told me they sought advise from Chrysler but very little info around about the crossfire and how to fix it. Any ideas, could it be the body control module?
I would like to get the issue resolved since my extended warranty runs out in 2 months--already wasted time at dealership. Any help would be greatly appreciated. It is extremely frustrating and don't know what to do! Thanks
