I have a 2005 roadster with 35,000 miles. I recently had a rear seal engine leak repaired. They replaced the seal. Since then, on a random basis, my check engine light comes on. They checked it once and found nothing and said if it comes on again, to bring it back for a more thorough diagnosis, which I am going to do Monday. Any ideas forum members?

 

Download the torque app and order a obd2 bluetooth reader and check your own codes,its a real timesaver for about 20$ total investment.Random check engine lights could be a manifold leak or anything.

 

Telling us the Check Engine light is on without telling us what code is triggering it is a waste of time.
And assuming it has something to do with the work recently done - well, it is reasonable to assume that, but again, without the code or codes being stored - there is nothing to discuss.

Of course, you can go to many Auto Parts stores and they will read the code for you, and we can go from there. But I highly recommend you get SOMETHING to read the codes yourself. If you can figure out how to set up your smart phone, you can figure out how to get one of these apps working or get the Ultragauge configured. And we are all here to help if you need help.

Light on or light off the code can still be read until it is physically deleted.

 

Yes, Carl. I LOVE my Ultragauge -and like I said, their price is down!
Its good for more than just reading codes, they come with a suction up mount - you can stick them to the dash or windshield and monitor all sorts of stuff.

And, as 180 said, just 'cause the light is out does NOT mean the code is not still stored.
