15 weeks problem shooting and no repair
Well, a lot of good comments and some that won't get you anywhere. This is no more than a consumer complaint. Period. Fact as you have told us is you caused a short near the radio. Maybe you were working in there yourself. You took the car to the dealership, told them your problem. Here's a key point. Pay attention. You SHOULD have SIGNED a work order of some sort. They agreed to fix it or at least try to fix it. Somehow we went from a simple short to installing the SKREEM Module. NOW the RUNNING car is not running. Like it or not, they did something to render your car inoperable. You didn't cause that. They admit they can't fix it. Chrysler has bailed because this is not a warranty item and they have nothing in it. It solely on the dealership. I would not do a damn thing but let a lawyer handle all of it. You pick the car up, or pay anything the contract with the dealer is then met. You are out the money and the car. They don't have to fix your car, but you don't have to pay either. If you prove they caused the problem then they will have to pay for the repair. But all this is done by an attorney. They aren't going to listen to you.
Man I wish you lived closer to me as you can take the skreem and bcm from another car and swap them with the original key and keep the key that goes to the skreem next to the dash and find out real quick if that module is the issue or not. I have both out of the N/A I used for my swap and did just that until I got all the SRT systems working together and happy. At this point you have nothing to loose and much to gain if you got it running. The use of a diff skreem and key transmitter coded to it would tell you if they botched the programming on the new skreem. (would be my guess). Are you mechanically inclined at all? Taking out the bcu or just leaving it in place and connecting up 1 with a good skreem and key would prove if they got the programming wrong.
The hardest part of that process is taking the dash instr panel out to get to the skreem. Do you have anyone in the area that has a xfire you could borrow the bcu, key and skreem from ......I assume this is a N/A xfire? The bcu and skreem hold the VIN so must match with the key that is programmed to the skreem....... the original key would have the correct cut to actuate the ign. That would bypass the old security in your car and tell you what you need to know.
Mrblue 2250- make sure they can fix it or you going to get this. Montana was the closest I found factory trained on Crossfires - be careful-very very- I have asked Mercedes repairs- if I can find one I will let you know for sure.

Here is the update of Clare Chrysler repair of my car. The refused to do anything else and gave me a bill for repairs (still no fix). Attorney Generals Office, Investigator was put off and told after after repeated calls that they would reduce the bill by $400. He provided me a call and letter advising me of options - Court, Sues and BBB. Went to a lawyer and he told me to get the car, that was before yesterday. At Clare had to pay to get my keys to have it towed, went to the car saw something inside had no power to the auto locks. Unlocked the car and found car parts all over inside seats and back, went to the back to find a new scratch approx 14" long between the hatch and rear fender. Opened the hatch and the back was filled with the parts remover from the front and most of the rear inside compartment. Went back in to Service to report the problem, they followed me noted the problems and took my keys.
Started reading the bill and noted that the bill said that they light wouldn't go out (not part of the no starting problem), called Clare and now everyone saying it came in that way and passing the phone, till the Service Manger came on and said
"he was done with this car and wasn't doing anything else and that me by changing radio caused all the wiring problems (radios/light) and get it off the lot- it had been there to long." I told it was there that long because they had it there trying to repair the problem. And it got nasty after that -
WARNING if you have a car there, note and take pictures of the car before turning it over and check it before paying for service. But if it a hard fix - forget it even Chrysler HQ wont support a repair of their vehicles.

I have been totally confused by this thread. The car had a new radio fitted and during the install there was a short. The car was driven to the dealer, who fitted a new SKREEM module and now the car will not start and the interior is covered in parts taken off it. There is now a large scratch on the rear bumper.
Does that sum it up?
I can only ask where was the short? Follow the wires back and see what could be affected. Shorts usually mean blown fuses and nothing else, but this is a Crossfire so all bets are off.

Sorry 180
The short caused the car not to start. You kind of caught a summary of what happened after. I have letter for Chrysler saying they were done and justifying their rip out and repair with parts that didn't nothing to help. I was told to get the car out and pay them and go from there. Except they never put the car back together and reported new problems that I didn't bring it in get repaired. Torn out the inside rear hatch area and left it all detached in the car. there is so much that happened it hard to summaries without leaving something out. The car was towed in and need to be towed out- dealership has gotten ugly and threating

Is there anyway you can get the media involved?
You have a disability, I know it may be not your style but I think that you should use this to your advantage.
Papers and the radio love stories where there is a good guy and a bad guy, they do up here anyway. A local paper is best for this, just be sure the dealer does not advertise in it.

Take pictures of the mess and give them to the media. When it comes to this stage you have to use everything that is to your advantage. Say this is a vehicle you purchased to cheer you up, lay on the agony.
Be a nice guy and everyone will forget you and your problem.
180- thanks
Trying to go thru the right steps, so there is no trip ups that Chrysler or dealership can use. They keep saying "it was like that when I brought it in" "their word vis mine " . I don't want to miss any broadside hits from them, as it is they don't put anything in writing.
thanks for you input it is always good info

If you have not yet picked up the car and are planing legal action.
Document everything including pictures.
Send it to the General Manager and Service Manager and Attorney General including picture.s REGISTERED MAIL.
Close with details of what and who from Clare wants you to do.
ie. pay the bill before the keys will be returned (I'd use American Express) then cancel due to failure to complete service)
If you fail to document it can become "he said, she said."
I feel for you. I went through this with a new Buick years ago and it was only weeks old when issues started.

I use an other credit card and couldn't stop it. I am waiting for witnesses to come with me to get the car, I have pictures of it before it left to go there. No scratches no running lights on. Going to take pictures - sure they will call cops- should **** show.

Wow this whole event seems to be a **** show. I find it nauseating that Chrysler cannot fix" your car, but not real surprising. No One should ever take their car to a Chrysler dealer if they don't have a Benz ( crosssfire certified) mechanic on staff. These Cars really are not that complicated. I'm only a Fair Wrench, and with the help of this site I have been able to DIY my issues. Independant German car mechanics have no problems working on these cars. The Mercedes stealership was just jerking You off.
So since your not real good at answering the questions posed I would like to hear about this short.
1) did the car run fine before you took the old head unit out?
2) did you have to cut wires to make the new one fit?
3) after installing the new Head unit did it power up?
4) after installing the new head unit did the car start and drive?
5) How many times?
6) When and how did you learn you had a short in the system?
7) which fuse did you change when the head unit didn't work?
There are tons of good info and I am sure the answer to the cars problem is already mentioned here, But clearly Your problems with the dealership are taking up your time and energy right now, as well it should. Hey did you ever get the TV station involved? Here in Seattle if I called "Jesse Jones" the Stealership would have flatbedded my car to where ever I wanted at no cost to me just to not make the primetime news!
When Your ready and IF you decide to get this car back on the road (I know it looks pretty daunting right now) I think a short in the Stereo system probably has 0 to do with your issues, and lean toward the SKREEM as do many others here, but if You start at the beginning, we can probably figure out how to fix it.

back for the **** show, it appears they try to throw the back together and broke all the clips and the parts are hanging donw. Once again they refuse to repair the scratch " now claiming their not responsible for the cars left in their lot".
I got there and found that they were so stupid about these cars that they didn't know that the light that came on, were the left and right side courtesy lights and just had to turn the light switch to "o" to get them to go off.
charging the battery to see what else might be messed up..
I will be calling on you my brothers X's for you help now that she home.
thanks for your advice nice to be home

1) did the car run fine before you took the old head unit out? Yes it did –((
2) did you have to cut wires to make the new one fit? No – made a connector to mate with the existing
3) after installing the new Head unit did it power up? Yes and I was dressing up and tiring into the AMP – and stilled worked
4) after installing the new head unit did the car start and drive? Yes
5) How many times? Several times
6) When and how did you learn you had a short in the system? When I was dressing up a loose wire and it sparked against the head of the new radio- and it wouldn’t start
7) which fuse did you change when the head unit didn't work?- None couldn’t find a blown one

LMAO- I did. they made an attempt to throw the back together, but broke all the panel clips. The light they couldn't fix were the curiosity lights and they dint know how to turn them off except pulling the battery cable. I am charging now to see what else is messed up.

There is a fuse on the back of the radio, not sure that helps, I doubt it.
I do not know when or how the the car stopped working. I am sure someone mentioned the RCM but ...........
Did it just stop?
I think you can forget about the radio and tell more, that means all details about the car quitting and what the symptoms were.
