Key cutting in 2015
Hi all,
Do you know if there is anyone other than the dealers that can cut our keys?
I got a replacement blank on ebay and have been trying to have it cut. LOWES and Home Depot both are incapable of cutting keys like this. In the picture you can see what I'm trying to cut.

You need to do the job right OR don't bother at all. By the time you buy off E-Bay and add to that the cost, as indicated by others, to be $50 by a locksmith, ends up at 50% of the cost of buying a OEM unit already programmed, AND you MAY even F$#% things up during the disassembly and reassembly of the Original key assembly ????
All seems futile to me. !!!!
I DO hope you are taking the advise of" "KDW4Him" post, regarding the disassembly of EXISTING key assembly, and NOT just buying a BLANK assembly off E-Bay cutting the key and hoping it will work. IT WILL NOT, as it has to be programmed to the car. Buying blanks off E-Bay is a cheap jack fools errand.

Thanks for the advice. Much appreciated. So far I have just swapped the internals into the ebay key and it works just fine. I put the uncut blade into the old key and hopefully someone is going to be able to cut it. When I took the key to Lowes and Home Depot, the people there were looking at my key as if it was some kind of rocket technology piece. They said that some complex tech is used to cut keys like this. To be honest I find it hard to believe.
If so, then getting the blank key in the old case cut is a waste of time as it will be good only for manually unlocking the doors and glove box.
IT WILL NOT START THE CAR WITHOUT THE TRANSPONDER CHIP !!!
Speaking of keys/fob. I went to unlock my car Sunday ..would not work...tried to unlock with the physical key.. would not work..why the latter?.Anyone?...Carl
Non use. The grease gets hard and wont let the tumblers move. Spray a little WD40 in to "re liquefy" the original lube and it should work fine. Fords are REALLY bad about this.
Did it eventually work?

I'm having this done today by a locksmith with a fob bought on Ebay. tonite I'll try the programing as outlined here.
https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...-key-save.html
Stick the key into the ignition, turn and press the lock button twice. I assume the "button" refers to the one on the fob not the console of the car.
Then turn to on.
Do this within 30 seconds.
Now start the car.

With the cutting, EBAY, or with the programing?
Your risible non answer is no help
So what does work?

Sorry. It has to have 2 things the Transponder programmed by Chrysler AND the circuit board for the buttons inside the fob programmed by Chrysler. You cant take the "button" board and just turn on key and "reset" the board from another car. The only thing any Ebay key is good for is to get the FOB shell but that's no good either because you have to break it open. You CAN get the replacement FOB shell and put your guts into. I was going to take the good Transponder chip and tape into the steering column and get more button boards from Ebay and copy as many Regular keys as I wanted but they got you one way or another. So the only way to get more fully functioning keys (Transponder and lock/unlock board) is to order one by the VIN and THEN do the turn key on and push buttons thing. Cutting the physical part of the key is easy with the machine, I can do that in my sleep.

I have one lost key of two. I'm taking nothing from the "lost" key.
According to the cited thread it can be done and has been done with no more than the process described. I know **** about this process except what has been posted here. I'll let ya know my outcome.
Dave, here's what happened: Once the fob would not work, I replaced the two small batteries...still would not work..the physical key would not open the door either. Roadside service opened it in 1 minute. Placed the fob/key(with new batteries)...started car immediately.Drove the car home (100 miles). and key opened the door perfectly. However the physical key still would not unlock the door...I thought that if the fob didn't work that the physical key would open the door?????..Thanks... Carl
