Default Car Randomly Goes Dead While Driving

The past few times I have went to go crank my Crossfire it would not crank up at all. I've had issues with this in the past and usually what I would do to fix this is to jiggle around the wiring to the Relay Control Module. Most of the time the car would crank right up after doing this. It has usually did this with extreme weather changes (hot one day and cold the next). The last two times I did this and drove off as normal, but the car ended up going dead a couple times while driving. Each time it happened I was coming to a stop. I also noticed that all of the lights on the dash would come on and then go off after the engine stopped. It isn't the battery going dead because the interior features such as the radio still works each time it goes dead. Could this all be related to a faulty Relay Control Module?

Any advice is appreciated greatly

Yank the RCM and send it to DJ for his quick fixes.

Or order a new one from Amazon/eBay/Parts Geek, etc.

Any idea how much he charges? Also not sure about who you are referring to.

I've seen new ones for $140 so I might just buy one of those. Just wanted to be sure that the RCM was causing the issue of the car dying while driving.

I think getting one repaired is a better option than buying a new one. A new one can have the same trouble down the road.

I don't plan on keeping the car for longer than a month. Too many small issues (cup holder, coin holder, busted fog light lens) have driven me to the point of hating it. As long as it fixes it for now that's all I care about although I may have time to be able to repair it if I buy another vehicle very soon.

Thank you for that link though.

Wow, small issues like that would make you hate a car? Good luck finding the perfect 15 year old car out there. When you find it, let us all know!

Don't get me wrong I still love the car, and if it was up to me I'd keep it forever. Finances just don't agree with keeping 2 cars at the age of 23 though. I'll give the soldering fix a shot and hope it works. Again, thank you for that link.

THe cost of these little repairs is not a big deal.

What will get you is paying insurance on the second car, and buying TIRES for a Crossfire. If you REALLY enjoy the car, you will go thru tires.
The next to the last set I bought for my Graphite lasted 11,700 miles. That was $850 spent twice in one year on tires alone.

THe SE is not a daily, I bought tires for it in 2016 and won't need tires for at least another 3 or 4 years.

I believe DJ charges 30.00 or 35.00 for the fix. Do an RCM search on this site for info. It takes about a week turn around though.

I think I'll give the soldering a try tomorrow. Hopefully that will fix everything.

And you definitely aren't wrong about the tire prices. Luckily I've only had to buy new ones once during the time I've owned the car.

Thanks for the input

If you would like me to refurbish your RCM...Send your RCM and $30 (cash, money order, check) to:DJ TIGHE3601 Pinnacle CtSierra Vista, AZ 85650 I'll inspect, redo bad solder joints, perform the Me So Horny mod (horn works w/o key) and replace the Air Pump relay (and the Fuel Pump relay if needed). I will then test your RCM in one of my cars. Then I mail back the RCM to you via USPS Priority Mail (2-3 day). In most cases, I get the RCM back in the mail the day after I receive it so yer looking at about a week total. If you want the package insured please include an additional $5. FYI, In the few years I have been doing this 3 have been lost in the mail.If you ship to me via a method that requires a signature it will extend your waiting time as I will have to go into town to sign for the package.Leave all fuses and plastic cover on RCM.Let me know what symptoms the car had. Please email your address to me also.Or for $50 I will replace all relays (except horn - it never goes bad). You should NEVER have an RCM problem then.tighed1@hotmail.com
