Hello all! I have a 2005 with 128K miles... the check engine light came on for a brief period while driving and then went off within the day. Check Engine light unfortunately returned and has now been on consistently for a few days. She's driving just fine, but it's stressing me out! Just wondering if you all may have any ideas for me, possibly some issues you are aware of, something I may be able to check myself before spending $$$ at the stealership... your comments a so appreciated! Thank you!

Maggy55, I have not checked for any codes, I don't have a OBD reader I realize it's a pretty broad question, I was just praying for a simple explanation or idea!

 

Two things, first NEVER go to a dealership, they know practically nothing about this car (if they ever did), second, local auto supply stores have OBD readers they can hook up for you to find/get the codes. Write them all down and come back here. If repairs are needed find a European mechanic to do the work. Most of them will immediately know the drivetrain when you open the hood. Good luck!

Look, it the basic list (which leaves out a lot of exotic stuff) has over 390 codes. You want us to GUESS which one, based on "I have a 2005 with 128K miles... the check engine light came on for a brief period while driving and then went off within the day. We get this from people on Facebook as well as here, every day. You are not alone - but please, you have a light that TELLS you the ECM sees a code or code - why not READ the code and give THAT to us? THEN we can help.

Just got back with one error code:
P0341 Camshaft Position Sensor A Circuit Range/Performance (Bank 1 or single sensor) - An electrical circuit was out of its operating range or had a performance problem for a predetermined period of time. Does that mean I need to replace the part or? Clearly, I'm a woman that knows zippy Am I cool to drive for a few weeks before I can address the problem? Thanks again!

 

Yup. You need a new part - Bosch Camshaft Position Sensor part number #0232103037.
It's very simple to replace, see:

Failure to make this replacement can result in a shutdown until it is replaced; usually happens at the worst time at the worst location.

I would also consider replacing the Crankshaft Position Sensor, making the RCM repairs and the Sticky Key Fix if you have not already done so.
Better safe than sorry.

Kourt78, I see you are from Annapolis, MD so I am certain you have much more money than I to keep throwing at your car. However, if you will use the search box at the upper right corner of this forum you will will find that the "Sticky Key Fix" is a one time repair and will cost you $ zero, and the RCM repair when sent off to forum member tighed1 will cost about $30 and his repair and improvements will last at the least 5 years and probably much longer.

Your choice.
I recommend you become pro active and save a bundle.

I'd like to suggest NOT using that box.

I actually find it way easier to type my problem into Google like this: "Chrysler Crossfire thing that is broke" and look for the forum links - seems to work better than the forum search:


This has worked well for me, in fact, when someone on Facebook asks a question, I usually use this techique to find things. Like above, "Trunk lid jammed" is probably the best one, but the others can be helpful, too.

 

I agree about just using google. But I sometimes go a step further and type something like: crossfireforum.org: skreem

That trick makes google give you hits within the forum...except for some ads interspersed in the hit list.

I don’t know if the colon is required but that’s the way I do it. But then again, sometimes good info is scattered in other websites, too.

 

Your getting there! Now order a BOSCH sensor (ONLY). The others have problems and you'll be right back here wondering why its messed up again. Buy Bosch, or go home. Good luck!
