Hey Everybody - 180 is trying to help all of us out. Isn't there someone on here that can assist with the electrical information? Surely, somebody has some little bit of info that coupled with info from other's could solve the problem. As we all know, the dealers don't know squat and we have to find an answer here on our forum. Any little bit of information may lead 180 in the direction that will benefit all of us.

Jim

I can't help. I've activated ABS many times. Stability control, memorably, once. I performed a 360º spin on track. I could feel the brakes working one corner at a time controlling the spin until the car was going in the right direction. I've searched hidden codes and erased them before. I get a kick out of the improbable wheel speed codes. How it all works? No knowledge here, just speculation.

This thread is somewhat old, but I recently received some information from Autel Technical Support regarding an inquiry I made regarding one of their new scanners. Two of the scanners have me interested. Thought I would share this with the Forum. See the attached copy of the eMail I received. (Note: Scanners happen to be discounted right now.)

Dennis, The Crossfire will not bleed brakes as some automobiles. The programing does not exist on the Crossfire. I have a DRB III and what the ESP/BAS system test does on the Crossfire runs the pump on the ABS system for about 2~3 seconds to complete the test. At no time does the brake pedal move. Perhaps if you had a caliper opened at the bleed nipple/valve and ran the test, fluid may come out the bleed nipple, but the test is not designed to operate that way. Best bleeding procedure is to open the brake fluid reservoir cap, attach a pressure bleeding tool and then proceed with each caliper.
I asked "toolman" about this a couple years back and he confirmed that the pump on the ABS only runs a couple of seconds to complete the programed testing.

Steve - I was just interested in bleeding the ABS and asked Autel whether they had a scanner that would trigger the pump to do so. So you're telling me that only a few seconds of ABS pump operation is all that is needed to purge air out of the ABS. Once that test is done, then I'd need to bleed the brakes to remove the air the ABS pushed into the system.

I was looking at a low mileage Crossfire and I know the ABS HCU was changed out - not sure why. The Service Manual states that that task is about the only means that air can get into the ABS braking system, and the ABS would need to be tested to purge that air out into the base braking system.

Dennis, I can't answer that question. I do not know that any solenoid operates during that brief run period. It may just be that the PCM is testing the electrical connections or checking for cutoff pressure. I do not know if any air is purged when that ABS pump operates during the DRB III testing.
You may have seen on youtube videos where the brake pedal actual moves up and down as the brake system is bled with the cars computer. That will not happen on the Crossfire as no such programming is incorporated into the systems. I know at Mercedes dealers they have a high dollar machine that applies pressure at the reservoir.
