removing shifter knob
I tried to remove the shifter **** in my wife's crossfire (yes, we bought two the same week. lol) to inspect it- think it is cracked internally, it makes a cracking sound when shifting. Anyway, I pulled the boot and loosened the "cone shaped" nut on the **** and tried to pull it off with no luck. I didn't want to force it in case I missed something- is there anything else to remove? Thanks.

Thanks- I'll remove it tonight and inspect it. Has anyone experienced a cracked or "creaking" shifter ****? It is the **** itself- you can "rock" it back and forth on the shifter a bit and it makes a creaking/popping noise as it moves.

my stock shifter was always tight. my MOMO became loose because i used the wrong insert, so it started to rock after about a month or so. i've since redone it with the right insert and its solid again --
if your stock **** is rocking, i would definitely take it off and try to reinstall the right way. or, worse case, you'll have to head over to the dealer. (best case... get a momo

Hey I'm interested in changing the shift **** myself. Just wondering if dealership will give you a problem about changing it and does it affect the shifting or cause problems when driving. Example the reverse pulling the **** and shifting or shift **** giving driving problems? Thanks.
Dan- thanks, I wasn't aware of that. However, I try to avoid the dealer whenever I can. Its more headaches than it is worth, I have been a mechanic/tuner for about 17 years now, so I do what I can, before going to the dealer. I will probably end up getting a new shift **** under warranty and putting it on, I have a feeling it is cracked inside.
