Convertible top won’t latch
Convertible top won’t latch
I have a 2005 Crossfire roadster. My top goes down fine and let’s me open my trunk. When I put it up I can’t latch the top to the windshield. The latching mechanism works fine but I can’t pull it down far enough to latch it. The console light stays on and I get a constant beep and can’t open the trunk. Now here’s the kicker. If I let it sit for around 10 or 15 minutes, I can pull it down and latch it but still can not open the trunk with the top up!!! Any ideas?

So, the trunk won't open - sign the lock is still locked because the cycle is not complete.
AND, top wont latch, I'd suppose, due to, again, the cycle did not complete and you have pressure on at least one cylinder, once the pressure releases, the top can be pulled closed, but again, the cycle TECHNICALLY did not complete so the PTCM did not unlock the trunk.
What you must do: CAREFULLY stand back while someone else puts the top up and watch the motions. What does not look right? What seam does not meet it's mating surface as the top goes up? My thought here is a travel sensor on one of the cylinders is not "making" and telling the PTCM to STOP.
This is largely a mechanical issue, you should be able to SEE with your EYES what is not right.
If all else fails make a video of the action and post it here. We need a video that is NOT CLOSE UP, we need to SEE the entire top/car. And sound in the video helps.

We don't know yet, we don't know what the problem is.

Re: Convertible top won’t latch
Yea, this is common. The cycle is not completing and if you look REAL CLOSELY, the top, as it contacts the window frame, is maybe 1/4 inch too far forward to mate with the openings in the frame.
Colleen up in Wisconsin had this happening after they fitted a new top, the new top was not installed exactly correctly.
Let me page Robert McCubbin on this one.
